Yeah its pretty bleak in canada finding almost anything.Almost nothing is shipped for free. And prices...it's not just a matter of the money exchange.Just bend over and be prepared to pay double to thriple, for the same product
Well if you actually saw the profit margin on hydro equipment in Canada you'd realize why there is shipping costs. If a shop could make $100 profit on a ballast than they would include free shipping but when they only make $30-40 profit obviously they're not going to pay the $20-25 shipping say from BC to Toronto not including any shipping for warranty stuff.

Hey like I was saying in another thread.
For 1 cubic yard delivered with some amendments already added should cost in the 175-200 range.
You would have to google a soil place in your area as someone mentioned if you call and consulate I'm sure they can build you a great BASE Soil. Including
Peat moss
Perlite
Vermiculite
Maybe even Worm castings.
However you will have to source out the other amendments like
Kelp meal
Azomite
Bone meal
And a few others.
I stay away from blood meal for a few reasons. ( takes too long to be available
Already have enough N from WC)
I get my Soil from Pagonis Live bait here in GTA
My soil amendements I think your looking for come from http://greengardenerssupplies.com/
Please check website.
Contact Peter if you don't see something you need.
You name it it I'm sure he has or can come up with it.
From Rock Dust to bat guano. Rice hulls, Oyster shells, the list goes on.
Hope this helps.
I'll give out all my secrets if it helps lol.
He will ship Canada Post.
As per insect control Not sure what people's feelings are on Canadian Tire Bug B Gone!!
I used it on the outdoor for spider mites and what not and it performed awesome.

I was just using it as an example on crazy shipping costs from the United States.

I always try to source locally and would never ship dirt. Well only from Home Hardware as they have free shipping :)

I only had trouble sourcing locally Neam Meal ,KARANJA OIL, Neam Oil , Humic Acid, Crab Meal, Oyster flour and DE.

I'm hoping to make a list of local suppliers of amendments

I'll add http://greengardenerssupplies.com/ to the list

Cheers

Could I just remove topsoil by my dugout and replace it with cattle manure? Just pump water from the dugout to the plants? Maybe add hydroponic Nutrients in a reservoir, adjust pH and gravity feed? I don't really need to buy dirt, I have hills full of the stuff.
The dugout is fed from an underground spring near it.
