can you use tin foil instead of mylar?

Depends what lights you are using. I would think that CFLs wouldn't have that problem. I won't do it with a 400w HPS.
 
you can use tin foil but it's the last thing i would use. i took my mylar down and painted the walls flat white, a lot easier to take care of.
 
yellow paint is more reflective than tin foil, go for flat white or better yet titanium white paint for cheapness and ease and mylar or foylon for something more expensive but slighty more reflective
 
my mum is making me do a presentation on why she should let me grow at her house, so i need to get all my facts right to convince her :)
