can you use tar paper under your plants??

so i heard today that you can use tar paper to put under your plants i think it kinda makes sense because it holds heat..ever been on a hot roof?? its pretty damn hot...just wondering...all help is aprreciated!!
 
You don't really need to hold heat for growing, most of the time you need to get rid of it. I guess if you grow room is that cold then tar paper would help but otherwise its kind of pointless.
