Its definitely "a" sativa strain. The giveaways are the long fingerlike leaves and the long tall thin branches
Is it Mexican? I don't know if there is any well to know that for sure from just a picture.
On the other hand, since the vast majority of the seeded commerical weed seen in the USA is from Mexico, and since serious imports of other sativas stopped decades ago, that really is the most likely strain.
Chance of this being a commercially available Sativa strain that your friend germinated then gave you is pretty negligible.
Anyway pure Sativa strains take a LONG time to finish flowering; in some cases 3-4 full months, and they also tend to give looser buds, which is why they're usually not favored for growing in the USA.
How do you know what its done? Same as any other plant: Look for most of pistils (hairs) to turn brown, calyxes (false seed pods) to swell, upper fan leaves to start to turn yellow, and for the trichomes on the upper buds and leaves to turn from clear to cloudy, then amber. You may need magnification to see this color change.
