Can I take my hood off of my ballast/cord

Can I take my hood off of my ballast/cord? I want to just have it hang there.. Idk if it's possible, but my hood is soo deep and soo round that it really doesn't reflect the light well, I think it would do better with no hood.. I haven't seen any thing wrote up about that..

it can be done, but unless youre setup to grow vertical it will be detrimental to yield. most of the light is spread out and not down. plus you will need good heat control.

Well my room runs about 75 degrees now and I don't have an air cooled hood. But my last 5 plants only got about an ounce all together... I guess I'll just shell out and get a couple 1k's...

i wouldn't recommend it. you really need the reflector for maximum yield.

What wattage light is it? You don't need 1k's to get a good yield. This sounds like grower error more then anything else without pics and more info on set up

I was running a 600 but I was running 6 plants under it and like I said the hood itself is a good 2 feet from the bottom to bulb and the outside plants barely get light.. 6x6 room (too big for light I know) I was in FFoF soil using FF trio nutes. watering 3 times a week... I am supposed to be getting atleast a 1k Ballast/hood.. we'll see..

your best bet is getva reflector that best fits your grow area. sounds like yours was too small a pattern, maybe a blockbuster or magnum.
