can a seedling that lost its roots survive?

my guess is unlikely but i'm lookin for sum
more experienced input.


my awesome pet uprooted my seedling
snapping off its roots completely

i clean cut it and replanted it into rock wool
and it hasn't wilted much yet....

it can survive even if the tap root is damaged if properly taken care of and with some luck. They can regrow that root but i believe it is almost a 50/50 shot from my xp.

I would try maybe putting a very small amount of rooting pwoder on the bottom of the stem (or whats left of the taproot) and see if it like re roots itself maybe? I dunno.

keep the seedlings tap root and what ever roots are exposed in some distilled or boil water. Also put one drop of lemon juice also. Keep in there for a day or two , so the roots rehydrate and etc.. Then carfully transplant in some rockwool or whatever...

How about don't waste your time and focus on the rest of the "good" seeds.

Seriously, cut your losses, it happens.

Well i have a lemon skunk plant ,A the beggining of its life i thought id killed it by snapping its roots i did start wilting but i planted the seed soo what was left of the taproot was in the medium wasterd and now its back to life , it was my only lemon skunk seed aswell

one of the two (the less damaged one that lost the majority of the root system) is recovering and several new roots have devolped.

the other which lost all of its roots and had to be cut and re-rooted isn't dead but i can't see any progress, the lower 2 leaves are yellowing

but there has been some slow growth (myb the plant using up the last of its food?) i dunnno. i'll update when i kno

So final update. It took a full 12 days but the seedling that lost all its roots and was clean cut halfway up he stem showed its first new tap root today.

It looks a little stressed, it lost its lower 2 leaves but its going to make it. I'm pretty impressed myself, the two week old (now) re-rooted itself with no root hormone

just some tap water poured onto the rock wool twice a day.

Why not just start more? Not much time wasted. You would be better off instead of praying that this one seed comes back.

Nice save Jimmy! ..very impressive

I had this happen to me on an auto flowering seedling earlier this month. I immediately dipped the stem into some rooting hormone and reset it into the soil I mounded the dirt halfway up the stem to stabilize it. I made sure soil was moist but not drenched and set it into a sunny area outside. It survived. The pictures shown are that seedling about 5 days after the rooting hormone and then what she looks like today . It’s been roughly 20 days . Much success to whomever tries to save one because it is possible.

They're tough. About to chop one that a tree fell on splitting it and breaking off half of it. Cut the broken half up and rooted the cuttings. Those will go in the flower tent after it's out. Gave away several and have 4 left.

If its not too tiny then sure its possible to revive it. Think about cloning, the cuts grow roots. Id make a good clean cut and use some clonex or something and hope for the best.
