Can a plant have the trichs turn amber and mature before the buds final swell? Should i cut based on 10% amber or wait longer in hopes of that swell? Sativa dominant strain that I've been told is huge for sativa already.

Once a trichome turns amber its turned THC levels are declineing I think they startbturning into CBD if I am right you want to harvest when95 percent are milky and 5 percent are amber

If a plant is still pushing out new white hairs and calyxes then it is still producing sap (thc) and adding weight.

Yes I have had it happen to me before. I cut it down anyways and while the smoke was great, the bud just looked like crap. It is unfortunate

Have you checked a few different buds for color of triches? How about a pic? We could steer you in the right direction.
