California Cannabis Hemp Act of 2014

Here is part of the wording of the proposed 2014 initiative. So, does this non-GMO clause make it illegal to produce/possess any cannabis that does not match some frozen-in-time template of the cannabis plant? When is the template to be taken, upon passage of the initiative? Is selective breeding now outlawed? What a dumb thing to put in the initiative!

The terms "cannabis hemp" and "cannabis hemp marijuana" mean the natural, non-genetically modified plant hemp, cannabis, marihuana, marijuana, cannabis sativa L, cannabis Americana, cannabis chinensis, cannabis indica, cannabis ruderalis, cannabis sativa, or any variety of cannabis, including any derivative, concentrate, extract, flower, leaf, particle, preparation, resin, root, salt, seed, stalk, stem, or any product thereof.

to get the ecoloons on board the law might even have included the line "Fuck Monsanto in their Fucking Asses till they bleed" and this would still be a law i could support.

So true. I will vote for this initiative if it makes it to the ballot, but the "genetically pure" clause is just plain stupid and will undoubtedly cause problems down the road if the initiative passes. For example, I see nothing to stop the authorities from busting everybody who grows a plant based on the very simple enforcement of that clause because every generation of every living organism is "genetically modified". Sexual reproduction is the very basis of genetic alteration. Even cloning has genetic modification, via random mutations, it is fucking unavoidable. I would prefer your proposed Monsanto clause to the actual wording.

your concerns are valid, in that there is no legal definition for "Genetically Modified" just as there is no legal definition for the word "Natural" but i doubt any court would permit such buffonery from a prosecutor.

this is why most laws include a swath of "for the purpose of this statute" definitions for every word used.

the lack of a definition for the phrase at question is a serious flaw, but not a fatal one.

You might be right. 'For the purpose of' will probably define "genetic modification" as any genetic modification accomplished in a laboratory not using standard cross breeding techniques, or some such. It is still a very stupid thing to codify.

Another problem that WILL come about because of this clause will be banning the importation and use of seeds from a science-friendly location. That will be a complete cluster fuck, but it will be fun watching the likes of DNAprotection chase his head right up his ass trying to keep California in the dark ages.
 
dam that sucks i was hoping to understand the dna of this plant and start to decode the plant itself that was my last mission on earth to start understanding the codes of this matrix and catch aids and pull out one key ingredient to make it non harmful, cancer i wanted to stop the signal to decompose and i wanted to stop all of these things the codes are their i wanted to dissect certain codes to implant into the other plants??? dam am i wrong for loving this idea???

It is best to just stay out of these high level discussions about the plain meaning of words. Stick to "RACIST!!!"

genetically modified has a certain definition. not every single living thing is genetically modified, only a really stupid person would even pnder that thought.

Seriously, I can't think of any living thing that is not genetically modified during mitosis/meiosis/reproduction. After all, a freak like you was not created by a command from God.

actually thats the definition of a "Transgenic Organism", which would undoubtedly be a "GMO Organism", Dude's concern is that they may classify selective breeding as "Genetic Modification" leaving us with only Ditch Weed.

this is why the proposition needs a clear definition for "GMO". any wiggle room will leave plenty of areas for the baylons to fuck us sideways.
 
GMO is a genetically engineered organism. Traits artificially introduced. Only thing in cannabis breeding that is artificial is maybe feminized seeds.

what could be.more natural than letting two plants get it on?

GMOs usually cannot be made in a natural environment.
