well my plant has mag def... so i was ganna get epson salt but i saw some dietary supplement pills... calcium magnesium zinc pills ... all in one... i didnt know if i would be able to say desolve the pills in water and water that too my plants...

it says the indredients are:

calcium carbonate, magnesium oxide, zinc Gluconate, gum guar, calcium stearate, croscarmellose sodium, cellulose, egg shell, and ethylcellulose.....

i dont know what any of that is really so i dont know if its good or even ok for a plant... if anyone knows what all that is plz give me some info..... thnx a lot...

Wow... that may be a good idea. Never thought about it, though, and I don't know if the nutrients are available by just dissolving in water.

There's some stuff in there that might making dissolving the pills difficult. Grind 'em up really good, though, and maybe give it some time. You could also foliar feed the Epsom salts if the plant's still in veg stage.

yeah was about to do that tomarrow... the bottle says that its laboratory tested to dissolve within 30 min.. but is that in water or in your stomach acid

Hhm... yeah, and that's after being chewed up and mixed with your (gulp :x ) saliva. Still though, it's a good idea, and makes me wonder about other things you can find around the house to use in a pinch. We're about 20 miles from town, so I don't just run to the store whenever I think I want something, ya know?

yeah i know what u mean ... im trying to find out if someone has ever used them but i cant find anyone... sounds nice but i dont want to fuck anything up... hmm maybe the only way to find out is to do it to one plant..
idk tho

The only thing i'd be worried about in using those pills is the extra stuff they put in them. Guar gum and cellulose are both pill binders that basically stabilize the pill and allow for uniform dissolving in the stomach. I'd be worried about how those extra ingredients would affect my soil and plants. You could always run a little experiment and give one plant a solution made with crushed up pills, and give another plant a solution made with epsom salt or sother horticultural cal-mag supplement.

I noticed the gums and stabilizers, rolla, that's an excellent point. Did I remember to mention that Epsom salts can be dosed as a foliar feed during veg?

how strong should i mix the epson salt??

When treating the soil and roots, mix 1TBSP of epsom salt into 1gal of water and flush. You can also directly treat the leaves by mixing a solution of 2tsp epsom salt into 1gal of water, and gently misting the foliage. When I face a mag deficiency, treat both the roots and the leaves. Doing this, I've never had to wait more than 24 hours to see results.

I'm gonna have to keep that one in mind, rolla. I had a problem earlier in the season and didn't get the results I'd hoped for with foliar feeds, still didn't with watering it in, so I went with "The Blue Stuff" (a non-organic orchid fert). Don't want to have to do that again, so if I can swing it next time I'm gonna try Subcools super soil mix.

well i decided on wtf why not.. so i crushed 2 pills up and put in container with hot water to dissolve the pills. after about a hour of shaking i added some with some ph correct water and added it to one of my plants.. ill do this once every 2 or 3 days and see what happens
