i have a bit of a calcium deficiency and i was wondering whats a good way to give my babys a quick hit of calcium.....i like using egg shells in my garden out back for calcium, and usually i crush up some eggshells and put them in a hot gallon of water for a few days then water my plants for a quick calcium boost....is the egg shells a good idea to use or what else could i use.....eggshells seem to work for the vegetable garden, so i figured they should work on my reefer too....

Here are some sources of calcium: the more common are eggshell, oyster shell, garden lime which is calcium carbonate or dolomitic limestone which is calcium magnesium carbonate (provides Ca and Mg). These materials need to be of the finely ground or pulverized variety in order to be effective immediately.
Other good sources include gypsum (CaSO4) which provides Ca and sulfur, bone meal or fish bone meal has lots of calcium and phosphorous, earthworm castings are rich in calcium, magnesium and nitrogen (possibly other macros as well depending on the source).

I also recommend foliar application for more immediate results. If you can make a tea with earthworm castings and/or bone meal I would highly recommend it. It is also possible to soak earthworm castings in water (1 part castings to 4 parts water), strain and spray the liquid on the leaves.

thanx alot for the advice yall....i have some egg shells that i ground down really fine and let them soak in water for the past 24 hours....someone told me i should mix some molasses in with the egg shell water and foliar feed and feed with that.....should i add the molasses or just use the egg shells....im going to get some dlomitic limestone in the future, but for right now im gonna use egg shells cause its what ive got on hand at the moment.....

i may even add a bit of epsom salts to the egg shell water to get it some magnesium too....
magnesium and calcium can compete and lock each other out when either is too abundant. just use what you need, or take her easy on the mag if not deficient.

Eggshell is usually a slow release calcium source and you might want to use something more instant if your plants are showings signs of Ca deficiency. While lime can supply calcium, there are other sources that won't change the Ph quite as much.

I crush eggshells and add them to my soil mix.

I am not sure about your hot water method - eggshells are almost 100% calcium carbonate which is only very slightly soluble in water.

When you stir your eggshells in the hot water you don´t see any shell dissolve.

You can only be giving your plants the most minute amount of calcium this way.

Agreed, egshells are very slowly available and almost worthless for treating calcium deficiencies. I have heard of using tums for treating blossom end rot in tomatoes. I've never heard of it being used for cannabis but it may work. Give it a try and report back.:weed:

I use eggshells for the same reason as people add other forms of calcium and magnesium carbonate - to buffer pH.
