im plannin a grow in a 1 x 2.5 x 2.5 foot cabinet in a closet. i can go with the lowryder but i want to know if its possible to go with any other variety but just trim it from the top or tie it down? is that an option for me? cuz i want something from the purple family.

and a question about carbon filters.. should i face the PC fan so it blows air from the cabinet into the filter... or sucks air from the filter and blows it into the cabinet... dont laugh im a newb.

you only have 2.5 feet of height? youre wanting a normal sized strain under there with lights? gl...

as for the fan id say its better to get the hot air out...but you should really get two so you can have an intake as well

dude your ok , BUT

im only at 2wx3dx3h 6 26 w cfls and great results, they love being in a little area, order a 4 " in line duct fan from htg supply, was $27 shipped and it had plug, i made a diy carbon filter posted here and havd no smell.

as for height, i had some tall shit this time, 1 week in flowering i took fishingstring and put a small hole in the pot, tied it to the top in a strong area, and pulled it down like 6' @ a 90 degree angle...lol within hours all the buds pointed up

also did this one to a topped girl now its in a 6 inch pot and its now 3 ft wide...lol

You can grow most strains inside small-ish cabinets, if you use one of the many training methods available to you.

Notable methods are LST (tying them down for a lower profile), ScroG (training them under a screen or mesh), and zero-veg SOG in small containers (lots of little plants to fill up the space, usually from clones).

You can also use more stressful methods like topping, fimming or supercropping to keep the plants small.

wow thanks for the neg rep. you said i gave poor advice. i didnt give any advice you dumbass. i said good luck with growing a plant thats half a foot tall because hes gunna have to fit lights and a pot in there. i didnt even say it was impossible i just said good luck. i still stand by my comment.

Was that directed at me? If so, I didn't give you any bad rep, so you're barking up the wrong tree.

If it's any consolation though, the entire rep system on this site is both stupid and counterproductive. Best to ignore it, to be honest.

no it wasnt directed at you. it was directed at whoever gave me the neg rep.

Understood. Like I said, don't worry about it. If they are too cowardly to even leave their name, then their opinion isn't worth shit anyway.

I would love it if the concept of negative rep was removed from this site completely. That way, anyone who disagrees with a point can do so in an open forum, where it will have a more positive effect for everyone, and we can all learn a bit more.

Now, to get things back on track:
a question about carbon filters.. should i face the PC fan so it blows air from the cabinet into the filter... or sucks air from the filter and blows it into the cabinet... dont laugh im a newb.

I agree with icepik1234 that it is better to exhaust the hot air from the top of the cabinet.

As for where a carbon filter fits into all this, since it is used to filter out smells, it should be attached to the exhaust of your box. That way, all the air leaving has to pass through it, and is therefore filtered.

There are two places you could attach it, either before the fan, or after. Each way has it's benefits and drawbacks, and both ways are used, so there is no "right" way as such.

I personally lean towards having the carbon filter inside the grow area, with the fan afterwards, sucking the air through the filter. This way, I can guarantee that all the air is passing through it, and therefore being filtered. The downside to this is that it takes up valuable space in the grow area, depending how big your filter is, and how much space you have to play with.

If you have the filter after the fan, it will work just as well, and gives you some space back, but if there are any leaks or holes between the fan and the filter, smells may leak out, rendering your filter ineffective.

I also agree with icepik1234 that an intake fan is a good idea, as it helps take the strain off your extraction. I would advise a slightly lower cfm rating on this fan than the extraction side, or you may not have negative pressure in your room, which will allow unfiltered air to leak out of cracks etc.

hey everyone thanks for the great advice.. i was at work so sorry for the late reply.. and i have no idea for what the hell the negative rating is LOL.. or how to do it.. u guys gave me madd more confidence wit this grow and i will post pics and updates once i start.. cheers

on the old version of the forum you could get someone positive or negative rep...for some reason someone gave me negative rep because i told you it was hard to grow in 2.5 feet with lights and pots. they are an idiot because this is true. youre going to have to do some type of space management whether you choose to lst, supercrop, top, scrog, etc. or a mixture of any. you should read up on these and practice on your plants and see what you like. after a couple grows you should be able to have the hang of it and be able to decide what you think works best.

you can grow any kind you want . trial and error , tying it down, cutting it in certain ways you could grow a 10 foot plant sideways if ya wanted to
