no it wasnt directed at you. it was directed at whoever gave me the neg rep.
Understood. Like I said, don't worry about it. If they are too cowardly to even leave their name, then their opinion isn't worth shit anyway.
I would love it if the concept of negative rep was removed from this site completely. That way, anyone who disagrees with a point can do so in an open forum, where it will have a more positive effect for everyone, and we can all learn a bit more.
Now, to get things back on track:
a question about carbon filters.. should i face the PC fan so it blows air from the cabinet into the filter... or sucks air from the filter and blows it into the cabinet... dont laugh im a newb.
I agree with icepik1234 that it is better to exhaust the hot air from the top of the cabinet.
As for where a carbon filter fits into all this, since it is used to filter out smells, it should be attached to the exhaust of your box. That way, all the air leaving has to pass through it, and is therefore filtered.
There are two places you could attach it, either before the fan, or after. Each way has it's benefits and drawbacks, and both ways are used, so there is no "right" way as such.
I personally lean towards having the carbon filter inside the grow area, with the fan afterwards, sucking the air through the filter. This way, I can guarantee that all the air is passing through it, and therefore being filtered. The downside to this is that it takes up valuable space in the grow area, depending how big your filter is, and how much space you have to play with.
If you have the filter after the fan, it will work just as well, and gives you some space back, but if there are any leaks or holes between the fan and the filter, smells may leak out, rendering your filter ineffective.
I also agree with icepik1234 that an intake fan is a good idea, as it helps take the strain off your extraction. I would advise a slightly lower cfm rating on this fan than the extraction side, or you may not have negative pressure in your room, which will allow unfiltered air to leak out of cracks etc.
