MERRIMACK – A curious officer on his way to work discovered a private marijuana patch, leading to a search of a man's home which uncovered a sophisticated indoor marijuana grow room, police said.
Lt. Paul Poirier was on his way to work last Friday afternoon when he saw a man carrying a gallon of water and wearing a backpack walk across Daniel Webster Highway and into some woods.
Curious, Poirier pulled over and followed the man and watched as he tended to more than 30 marijuana plants, police said. The man, identified as Shawn Proulx, 32, of 11-23 Kimberly Drive, was arrested and charged with cultivating marijuana. Police seized the plants.
Investigators later obtained a search warrant for Proulx' condominium where they allegedly found a sophisticated indoor marijuana grow room with grow lights, digital timers and fans, ventilation systems, grow chemicals, plant food, fertilizer and other paraphernalia.
Proulx was released on bail and is to appear today in Merrimack District Court for arraignment.

Waste of time. Waste of tax dollars. The money earned by this, assuming he was going to sell it and not smoke it himself, would have stayed in state and helped stimulate the economy. It would have undercut the money being taken by organized crime. More importantly, it would NOT have been funding the drug cartels in Mexico.

When will the people of this state, and those know-nothings in the Concord legislature get it through their thick granite heads that criminalization of drugs is a losing proposition all around?
- Michael D. Houst, Barrington, NH
They should make it legal and tax it. Rather than a drain on our resources it could be plus. We need to rethink our drug and gambling laws.
- Mike R, Manchester
As disgusting as the stuff is to me personally, I'd rather see it supplied domestically by people who quietly grow it in their apartments than imported from Mexican drug lords.
- Me, Bedford
Guy walking in woods with backpack and a gallon of water on an 80 degree day is probable cause for an off the clock officer to start an investigation. I wonder if the police department uses copies of the Constitution as toilet paper in their bathroom.
- Fuzzy Dunlop, Manchester
Good thing medical marijuana is illegal. If was legal, someone other than ill patients might be smoking it...
- Jeff, Manchester
Wow...I don't know about everyone else but I am just so glad that this vicious, dangerous, predatory criminal is off the streets. We're all safe now so go ahead and throw away your locks and keys. Now all we have to worry about is murderers, rapists, burglars and child molesters. Thank God the police have their priorities straight.

The really disturbing thing is that a guy walking around carrying a jug of water is enough to trigger an investigation.

If you stop into Shaw's down in Merrimack and are spotted purchasing a gallon of spring water should you expect to be tailed?
- Andy, Manchester, NH
With a good attorney expect the follow-up story to read something to the effect of, "Charges Dropped In Case Of...."
- CD, Manchester
But, I'm sure is was medicinal marijuana, right?
- Dave, Manchester
Hell, I don't even smoke the stuff. But we all know that eventual legalization is inevitable. Let's just get on with it so the Democrats can tax the crap out of it and give the rest of us a break.

So I guess someone who may just be taking a hike and carrying drinking water is grounds to be followed?
I guess outdoor hiking and camping is out of the norm there.

LMFAO!!! that's classic...I think everyone should have to post what they are smoking when they post.. that way people could try some different strains that interest them based on what it does to you...

You have to be carefull tending to your gardens fellas. Even though you might think "I'm just hiking", this could happen. NOBODY should see you. Be a ghost in the forest. I hate to see this shit happen, I hope people think about going to tend to their crop next time. Don't let this happen to you!!!

Stay safe!:eyesmoke:
