:spew: OK I am just fed up. I have tried everything. I can not get a damn seedling to grow more than 2 leaves and DEATH!!!!!!!!! I am officially changing my name to BLACKTHUMB PLANTKILLER That is what they will put on my stone.
 
what are u using for soil and light, you shouldnt be giving it any ferts yet, and dont givem too much water
 
See light box in DIY. Soil is just plain potting soil Gardeners Kellogg products see post about N-P-K whic I believe ther is NONE added. PH'd the water to 6.5-6.8 from like 8.? Sheesh we drink this stuff? on a 18/6 light sched, no ferts. and i wait till the last inch of the bottom of the pot is just getting dry before watering em again (easy to tell by using wooden chopstick to bottom of pot, leave there for 1 min and remove it acts like a dip stick for your cars oil) being root careful but seedlings should not have too many on the very side if you planted em in the middle)
 
cypher, if you have to ph your water from 8, you are using tap water. tap water needs to sit out for 24 hours or more in an open container to let the chlorine evaporate. chlorine is what makes the ph of this water so alkaline, and cannibis does not like it. even if you change the PH the chlorine is still there, let your tap sit out for a while, or use spring or distilled water. This could be why you are failing so miserably. read the grow guides on this site for more tips and information!

p.s. You'd be surprised how the roots grow. they usually go straight to the bottom of the pot and aroudn the edges before really propogating throughout the container.
 
How tall are your pots? You are waiting until everything in the pot is dry except the bottom inch before you water or did I misread that? If I didn't misread it I think I found your problem.
 
The reason i believe he is using chloronated water is because when i ph my tap water it reads 8.0+, the tester i use only reads up to 8.0. and it's because of the chlorine, and he said he adjusted it from 8, then used it, without letting the chlorine evaporate. which would be a very huge problem.
 
Well... That is a well thought out and lucid suggestion. Thankfully someone has shed a bit of light on an otherwise dim demise of what could have been a great bit of smoke. Gong to test the CL of the water today and will update ASAP russr you may have just made my christmas list (or chanuka, or kwanza just trying not to upset anyone)

Yes but at the seedling stage I would guestimate only about 3 inch diameter max root growth (totally overestimating to be safe) for a 2" tall seedling. That should not harm the plant and if you leave the hole where the chopstick was chances are you can continue to use that for a while and at the older stages that little stick (another guess) should not hurt a mature plant any way. :confused:
 
i was just humoring you about that, i never meant to say the plants would get hurt, we all use moisture meters. just dont stick it right through the root ball!

to bigbud, i let my water stand at LEAST 24 hours and usually more because i have 4 gallon jugs and i use the oldest first.

cypher: yeah don't give up yet, let your water stand, luckily i curiously checked the ph of my fresh from the tap and saw it was 8.0+, if i didnt do that i wouldnt have caught on to the fact that you probobly didnt let your water stand. hopefully this WAS the reason for you're plants demise, try again and let us know.
 
Have to wait for the area to be clear so I can get in there to check the water thats been standing for a while. Now??? Is it just the standing of the water, or (equating this to pool water experience) does the sunlight directly diminsh the chlorine level in the water?

OK TAP water = Shows 0.4 - 0.2 (some yellow)
Water sat out all night in closed container = No yellow

Tested with POOL & Spa, PH and CL, test kit

? would the .2-.4 CL level really distress the plant THAT much?
 
no need for sunlight, chlorene will evaporate at room temp, if you check the ph of the water you will be able to tell.... kind of... make sure at LEAST 24 hours, if the ph reads 8.0 liek that again, the chlorene is probobly still there, if it reads around 7, it's probobly gone, your container must be open for it to evap, and of course this all depends on the water in your area

The Pots are 8" (Plastic) but I only have them half full. In total 5 inches of soil and the sprout is (was) 2" tall

Curiosity what was your Chl lvl
 
I don't know about the chlorine levels. or how much is safe for them, i just let it evaporate for 24-48 hours so i know it's gone.

Chlorine = Leat water stand for 24-48 hrs.
Ph = ???? what can I use to lower that will the pool Ph (-) work or is there a hort. Ph down mix?
 
i'm thinking about your soil. you said after there is two leaves it dies. appearently your water should be fine and not the problem after all you would not get any growth and you are getting some. but do correct your water problem. since your soil has no nutrient value, you are not able to sustain life. I forget where I read it, but all a tree needs for like the first week is water and soil alone. after that peried it needs nutrients to continue growth. very little amounts of nutes, but nutes alone. I would change my soil for starters. do not get a time released soil formula though. it will fuck up the harvest at the end of your crop. try to get something that has everything to make life continue. I use ocean forest and I do not have to feed my plants for 1 week, then I transplant to bigger pots and not feed for another week. then I tag it with foxfarm nutes and I have good results. give it a shot and I bet we will be calling you greenthumb as opposed to BLACKTHUMB PLANTKILLER lol

Soils attempted with exact same results

1. Miracle Gro Potting Mix NPK of .21-.07.-14

2. Gardeners (Kelloggs) Potting Soil (no added nutes)

Common denomintor Blackthumb Plantkiller, lol
