Buffer Solution

Ok, I got my Hanna PPM meter and I just got in my ph 7 buffer solution. They say I need to soak my meter in the solution overnight before I can calibrate it. Am I suppose to leave the meter on or off? The instructions don't say. Also, what all solutions do I need to take care of my meter? Do I need a storage solution too? And how am I to use the chart on the back to determine my plant's needs? Right now, it's going on its second week in blooming phase. No buds have sprouted yet. Is that normal? Thanks in advance.

First leave it turned off, but take the little cap off. many will tell you need to calibrate at 7.0 and 4.0 but you really don't. pH is a zone you need to be in not an exact value. You don't care about .01 or even .1. Your 7.01 solution is fine for storage. In fact you can calibrate just fine with distilled water which is 7.0 and about a dollar a gallon.

can u calibrate a ppm meter with a ph solution?
i thought the only way was to use a ppm calibration solution
or to know the ppm of something and set it to it

if it has a wick at the bottom, it's basically so it's soaked in the proper solution when you calibrate it. if it has and electrode, you of coure ouldn't have to soak it at all. if you have a little sponge in the bottom, I like to use the PH solution to store it in.. I'm not sure what the PPM is for that phase off the top of my head.. there are some threads on it if you do a search, or luda will post the link to it when he sees this later... he's good like that ;)
