bud rot 7 weeks into flower

Today whilst watering my 12 girls, i notice the dreaded bud rot on one so i checked the others and found 4 more with the tell tale signs of early bud rot. they are only affected in a small area but i have removed them from the grow.

This is my first grow with a 400w air cooled hps. I used 400w cfls before and never had such probs.

My cabinet is 1m wide x 0.6m deep x 2m tall and has a carbon filter ducted to the sealed hood which is ducted to the centirfugal fan. the light is 8" from the tops.

I used to grow 18 plants lollipop style staggered at 5 weeks, i.e. 9 plants under each cfl. but i thought i'd make use of the extra lumens so went for 12 lollipops. they got way bigger than i expected (which is good i suppose). anyway, I put 12 more clones in a couple of weeks ago (making 24 plants total) and think it just got all too humid or something, the weather has been constantly wet too.

what should i do, grow out the 12 new ones before putting anymore in or take 3 out and just do 9 plants on a 5 week rotation. anything else i can do that wont cost much?

cheers.

Please do not take me as an expert. I had bud rot happen twice on me. I run a perpetual small harvest and I added a strong fan and made sure my exhaust was working properly. The air seems drier in the flower room now. That seems to have cured my issue.

The dreaded bud rot is usually caused by too much humidity and not enough air movement or fresh air coming into the room. I noticed that the more plants I put into the flowering space - the higher the humidity. I solved this by adding a 70 cfm fan to bring fresh air into the grow and upgrading to an 18" rotating pedestal fan. Good luck with your grow.

man this answers my question i was wondering why i got bud rot must be from the lack of fresh air thanks.. i pulled the 2 infected plants i still have to going there where at week 10 friday...

Over crowding and little air movement is main cause for bud rot. Buy the time you detected it the damage is done.

i found a seven inch desk fan and put it in but it takes up quite a bit of space, have to see if i can hang it somehow.

is 24 plants too many for 1m wide x 0.6m deep btw?

This might be some dumb questions, BUT why would you remove the plants with root rot? ANd what kind of medium are you growing in? (If soil how did you see the root rot? i was guessing soil because you said you were watering them.) It isnt contagious to plants is it? I have been lucky enough to avoid it so far... thanks for any help and sorry if this is too off topic for the thread.....

its bud rot i got, not root rot. i took em out to save the bud that was unaffected and also to make the remaining plants less crowded.

oh shitty my bad man, must be too high this morning. are you gonna keep em and let them dry out and maybe get a little early smoke? or are they still to premature? Can you post some pics of your grow, it would be cool to see it:)

I got a Whirlpool dehumidifier for around $90 at Lowes. It's about the size of a kitchen trash can and holds 2 gal before you have to empty it. Occasionally we get extreme humidity here in Tx and it has come in handy, especially when drying bud.

i snipped all the bud off. all unaffected bud gone into one pile to dry, the other stuff i trimmed off the bad stuff and that's quick drying. its a kick in the nuts on the yield though. the other 7 may be ok if i got there in time.

no cam, sorry.

i think the real term is stem rot and it kills from the inside out
yeah, that's my worry. the other 7 'look' ok but who knows. i've tugged a few leaves and poked the bud a bit, it seems ok. :?

i was looking at those, scoped one out for 50 quid, only holds 1.5L though, i'll see how it goes with the fan first.
