Buckets?

Is it ok to grow outdoors in 5 gallon buckets. There is no good soil in my area. I got the whole indoor thing down, but I want to move to outdoor. I have picked a spot and desired strain, should I be cautious of anything else? Are there more variables with outdoor, and showed it be fenced off, I heard deer eat it?
Thanks for any help.

Well, buckets are fine if you give them drainage holes and sterilize the shit out of them before using them. 5 gallon buckets will yield you good-sized outdoor plants as well.

Right now, it's getting close to fall here in North America, so it's not the time to do an outdoor crop.

You want those planters bottom heavy. Should work fine. You probably won't know what critters you need to defend against until after the fact. Natural barriers are nice.

This is some prep or mental thought for next spring. I want to have a decent harvest to last me and about 8 friends through another college year. And how should i sterilize?

This is where I have to disagree depending upon application. If it's a far off spot and you aren't able to water frequently or when needed I would say "no" to the 5 gallon bucket. Better off diggin holes and using grow bags.
