Bubbleponics - Do you need a SUBMERSIBLE Water Pump?

wouldn't the pump get clogged from the nutrients and the roots?

couldn't i just rest the seeds in the water?
 
what no! dont do that the nutrients are usually liquid as well or dissolve no need to worry about that and yes you want a a pump that goes in the water unless it sits outside and your air hose just runs to the air stone.
 
you don't need a pump an air pump and air stone yes. If your gonna start from seed you can start seeds in rockwool or jiffy pots if you cant get to the hydro store i use both and they both work great. I Germ my seeds wait for them to pop in a humdity dome. then place your net pot in you bucket tote what ever your using and fill it 1/3 up with hydrton. Then add water in till its touching the bottom of the hydroton then place your rockwool or jiffy pot on top and fill it in. Then your set dont give nutes in the start good luck.
 
Do everything that IGOHARD said. You can use a water pump if you want to but is not absolutely necessary. Many claim that it shows faster growth with a water pump but I have not seen a legitimate comparison to prove it, but it worked for me for my first grow. If you get a pump, get a 6-way manifold, some 1/2 inch tubing and some air tubing. If you have any more questions just ask :D

DWC you do not need a water pump.. bubbleponics you do need a water pump

Bubbleponics is a garbage term that means whatever you want it to mean. Bubbleponics "is" DWC. Using a water pump and feeder tubes to create some kind of "drip" from below is certainly not some technological breakthrough and ironically, it is the method that least relies on bubbles. Anything that uses bubbles for anything can be called bubbleponics.
 
i use a pump bag (you can get it at a hydro supply store) you put your submersible pump in it, but the whole thing in your res and it acts as a filter. it works great. it keeps dust particles (from the hydro ton) and roots out of your pump.

Actually, Bubbleponics is a trademarked term that specifically means DWC with a water pump and feeder tubes.

I have heard good things about these filter bags and will get one for my next grow, but roots really shouldn't be a problem since you should take the pump out when the roots reach the water anyway.

Then wouldn't "tubeponics" make more sense? and anyway, that raises another question: why is a trademarked term the title of a forum? Wouldn't that be like a forum titled, "Nutrients/ GH Flora?" Search ebay for bubbleponics and see what all you get. No trademark seems to be in force there.

I did not come up with the name, nor do I enforce it's trademark, I was simply stating the fact that it is trademarked. The reason it is a separate sub-forum is because this system is slightly different than DWC, but different enough that it has unique discussions, questions, concerns, etc.

Oh c'mon. There are dozens of DWC variations each with unique issues. And there are many proprietary systems, that, if they had their own forum could have agents on-site to create threads with their "trademark" and start clubs whose members would be eligible for discounts. I actually have no problem with the approach, in fact I think it is a very clever form of marketing.

Oh yeah it is a great way to market their site.....
The only problem it is against the forum rules :lol:
