Hi all just set up my first attempt at the Brummy bubbler set up, going for 3 tabks with a double on the middlw which i know may cause a stir with you guys haha, its an experiment lol, almost ready for the baby’s to go in, just few things i need to clear up firstly, hopefully you guys can help me,

1.what are people using to cover the water to keep water temp down and what kind of temp are we hoping to maintain (water)
2. How do you recognise early symptoms of bud rot? Is it obvious? And how to treat/prevent
3, how long are people vegging for (Cheese Strain) on average? I Was going to just veg until plants reached half of growing space, is this the right thing to do?
4. Lastly my drip ring seem quite large, when the baby is seated in the middle im not sure the dripped water will make contact with the roots?

Thanks all

I've never heard of these. Is it just a reservoir below that you fill and it soaks the hydroton with a feeder drooling as well? No way to cover the open spaces of exposed water?

Its basically a DWP with a drip feed to help them grow as babys, as soon as the roots get through the tray to the water i think the ring can be removed, the water/nutes will be bubbling away below mate,

and yeah people deffo cover the spaces to prevent the light hitting the water but im
Not sure what they use to do it

Any good reflective cover will work well like Mylar lined plastic or somat

Treat it same as dwc water level inch under netpots so water splash bottom of net pot and always keeps the hydroton wet in the beginning or the roots won't develop into the res and will die
If the hydroton ever dries out before their is a decent root system in the water say bye bye to plant
After their is a good root system the rings could be switched if you want but i would use them tbh like a hybrid system can only aid in delivery and plant growth plus you risk the hydroton spiking the ec when it dries out
I have done this myself
The roots just turn woody in the hydroton when it's been dry a good while
Go easy on the nutes these systems really don't need much at all

ok so i'll keep the ring running to keep the roots in the hydroton nourished :)

i was just going to continue using the same nutes as i used to use in my soil. im a newby so you may see my nute combination and think i'm crazy, you'll be correct haha. well.. i only go from what friends told me to do and it seemed to work well with the soil. here is what i been using.

Veg Stage (Per 100ltr) i was using 100ml dutch pro take root, 100ml multi pro and 100ml Cal/Mag

About 2/3 weeks into Flower (Per 100ltr) i stopped the take root, continued with the multi Total and Cal/Mag, added 60ml dutch pro explode, 60ml PK and 100ml Silica Blast.

Then 7 weeks from flip (roughly) i then used just Ripen for one week. as my flush stage.

ill be very interested to see what the experts have to say, that's why i'm here to learn.. like i say it worked OK with soil crops

Its a drip feed with a reservoir basically, cover the water cos with the light and heat hitting it, you're asking for problems, i.e algae, heated water will bring pythium etc, id buy some silver bullett and put some of that in as an insurance, if your in the uk which im guessing you are? The heat is a big issue for us hydro growers right now, just practice and experiment, it's basically what works best for you.

Yeah heats a real struggle at the minute, what are you guys allowing yours get up to before you start to panic, iv been told not to worry about it quite AS much during veg but more important during flower stage. Yes i am from uk, hardest thing for me aswell is i tun my lights in the day. Also what do you make of the nutes i was planning on using on the above post? Thanks for your input mate

Right now i can't get my res down below 27c, hence why i mentioned silver bullet, great stuff mate fights off root rot etc etc
Im also running in the day aswell so heat is a bitch right now, tent temp is 30-34c with 1 light on but the babies are coping just fine atm.
Im using vitalink a & b
Using root stim and silver bullet, when i flip ill use vitalink bloom A & B and buddy.
I keep it fairly simple and basic tbh, i always find i get better yields than when im throwing all sorts in it, i just give the plants some cal/mag IF and WHEN they need it tbh mate, trial and error is best, feel free to private message me if you need any more help bro

Thanks for reply buddy, you look to be be in the same situation as me conditions wise only difference is i have 3 lights/3 bubllers in a 2.4x1.2 tent, i have digital controllers ican control wattage so will each lght up it untill temp gets too high then stabslise it there..

As for chemicals, i have a stock of dutch pro A&B hydro/coco grow for veg, and was gonna get dutch pro a&b hydro bloom for flower stages.. so you woudnt reccomend using multi total all the way through, or Take Root through Vega and also you Wouldnt reccomend Explode or PK or Silica Blast? Will kill me not bang it in when i already have it stocked up lol!!!

Also one last question? How do you determine when your plant needs cal/mag? With soil i always used to just give them 100ml/perL each time? Same with Multi total ??

Thanks again, AKA77

Sorry mate didn't see your reply, yeah im in a 2.4x1.2 myself with 2 600w hps (only 1 running on 250w digital ballast atm, due to size and heat issues)

Ill be honest with you bro, im not too familiar with certain nutes due only using vitalink myself as i said before i keep it basic, id use NPK when the plant tells/shows it needs it as with everything else, with experience you kind of just know what to give the plant and when.

Ive done grows where ive done the same strain same system with other branded nutes and ive put boosters and everything in and yielded less as when i just keep it simple, so basic works for me (super lemon haze)

How you getting on with heat?
This heatwave has been a headache but i STRONGLY recommend SILVER BULLET BIOFILM REMOVER, its great stuff and keeps diseases away.

Ok do you use that silver bullet all the way through? Im on day 2 and today i have been tweaking the aC and the light wattage to see what i can achieve, iv got 2 outside lights on 400w and middle light on 250w and my temp is good and my AC Aint quite maxed out yet so so far so good. Will slowly try and bring all 3 lights up to 600w as they get stronger. Just drip feeding them water at the minute 15mins a day. Water rings seem far away from the root cube mind which comverns me, still feels damp though. On the photo the larger white thermometer is in the canopy area and the amall black one has a node level with the top of the plants so think temps are spot on

Yes mate i believe you use SB all the way through, it lasts up to 5 weeks when put in your res, today my room temp is 26, its been 30-35c all week, toooooo hot for young plants, im currently hand feeding them atm to keep them nice and wet and try to encourage the roots to go looking.

Ec wise i just try to keep it low, i always give the plants half of what it says on the bottle as giving too much can cause nute burn or lockout then its just headache lol

Yeah lookong good mate, think ill start my ec at 1.2 and work up to 2 at the peak and then reduce back down towards the end slightly, iv read to change my water in my res’s weekly, dont think im gonna bother though, not that often anyway. Only think is if you keep the water do you just too it up and top up the nutes to the desired EC? Id just be worried not knowing what nutes to add to get the ec up, each time if that makes sence, could the plant not of taken more of one nutrient than another if you know what i mean? And then i top it up with more of the same nute thats still in the res rather than topping up with the nutes it doesnt have left? Conplete newby as you can tell haha

I personally change my res weekly to stop build up from the salts from the nutes etc, plus after every fresh res they just thrive its like they've got a turbo on them lol, best just to empty and refill weekly, i know its graft but part of the game mate it's worth it at end of the day.

2.0 ec to me is high depending on what week youre in, how big the plants are and how long you're vegging for, i just go by what the plant tells me mate if its doing ok on 1.4-1.6 id just keep it at that, kinda like if it ain't broke dont fix it if you get me.

Yeah well thats the kind of EC levels i was working to with soil but having doing a bit of research on here ill take your advice, will try lower levels. Heard you dont need as much with these systems.

Im not aure what to do with the drip, i have one person telling me i need to leave the drip on 24/7 and others telling me to do 15 mins a day and then build up to doing 15mins a day (twice) if that makes sence.
