Go with the b type driver. Being able to dim the fixture without monkeying with the driver is a nice option.
Go with AB version if you can, youll have both onboard(Volts and amps) as off board dimining (amps only). Unless you spec youre build carefully its allways better to go with the A version as it will allow you to setup up a variable voltage limit which is good for any parallel setup.

Don’t mean to jump in but has anyone figured out how many EB gen 3 strips one would need for a 4x4 and how hard to drive them with what driver?

30-35 watts per square foot is a common recommendation with good LED. I'd go with 10-14 strips and HLG-480-42AB or 14-18 strips and two HLG-320-42AB. More strips per driver means less current per strip, a little better but more expense and wiring.
 
Thanks! Perfect responses, ill go with an AB...didnt even know they made them after looking for the past month on cobs and led strips. So if I had the driver you suggested, running 6 strips would be a problem if one went out? Since it has the on board voltage limiter.... The strips would just run a little warm. I will be using some 45" heatsink from heatsink USA or similar if I find somewhere else. Is a fan in addition to a 8" ac cloudline needed to keep them cool in a 4x4? I want to use some 80/20 to make the strips moveable to add in some supplemental strips later(high and low nm).

No, it's not a problem if a strip goes out, a voltage limit will prevent each and every strip from drawing to much current. Those strips can run at 1050ma with no heat sink whatsoever. Have look at some of the other Gen-2 builds.
 
My thinking was since the strips run cool at 1050ma, at 1275ma is not too much more and below the 1400ma max. Ill also be using heatsinks for a nice expandable frame with good air flow between strips(want to add emerson and spectrum boost if my buds aren't getting super frosty).I'm trying to figure the wattage this puts out with 6 strips on the driver but I can't seem to find the formula to calculate it unless it is just 1275ma X 41v= 52.275 watts per strip. I think that is right except for the 41v number is less....i just dont know the exact number, maybe ~40v? Probably wait to see if I can get some black Friday deals for all this stuff. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

The Gen2 BXEB 1120mm has a fV of right around 40V. Might say 39 on the data sheet even.....So yes, at 1275ma they suck 50W(ish) each.
 
Well, I finally am getting started buying all my equipment. Had to get a better deal, so I waited til today, black Friday. Got a 5x5 gorilla tent for $280 delivered. Got a AC infinity t8 fan and 8"carbon filter for 25% off. Now I need to get my lights figured out. Leaning heavily toward the eb gen 2 @3500k and running 6- 1120mm strips off a hlg320-42ab 7.65A. Make 2 light fixtures, so around 640watts. I may have to go 8 strips on a hlg 480-? since I was only planning on getting a4x4 tent.

Id love.to hear opinions.on the cloudline controller....
I use one of the T6 fans in my upstairs room and I like the controller a lot. Makes it easy to set parameters for the fan to operate. The only thing I wish I could adjust would be the decay rate at which the fan spools down as it hits a set point.

960 watts of EB's in a 5x5 is going to be quite a lot. Unless you plan on expanding your space it's not worthwhile. I would stick with your original plans. I have over 900watts of Vero's and F-strips in my 5x5 space and I HAVE to dim it.

looks like youre on the right track, a quick look showed me 41v at 1400mA, yes 328 Volt.
Which is a quite high voltage, you can also consider taking the 2800mA version and take 4 strips in series, 2 times (parallel).
This lowers the voltage to 171V.

I heard a lot of noise that the controller is a bit unreliable, it can hit its target temp and not go on etc. Glad to know its not widespread

I do really well with mostly Gen1 EB 3500K at less than 30W/sqft....
That said, I have tailored my entire operation around these particular emitters.
 
Well, I finally got the ball rolling. So far I have 24 gen 2 eb strips on 1" heatsinks and some 20" t slot for the frame. 2 hlg-320h-42b drivers(probably going to get a third and run 8 strips per driver) hurricane x controller(really like this) cloudline 8" filter and t series fan, an oscillating fan, 30 gallon containers. I'm having a hard time getting the ducting on the filter and fan to stay connected. Should I get a special part? Also, where should I vent the air? One story house with well ventilated attic. I have some grape punch seeds sprouting now so I need to get this figured out. Thanks for all the help guys!
