Breeding Questions

I'm going to have to go back and read the that very long but informative post. A lot of it will be redundant for me because I studied it in college but here is the short version of what I'm betting the article explains.

You can't assume that breeding plant X with plant Y will result in a plant with the best of both parents. It may very well be the case that you wind up with seeds that retain the WORST traits from each parent. Sure you can try some crosses just for fun, but if you want to ensure a premium crop I would leave the breeding to the pros.

I have a few questions about breeding let's say I wanna mix blackjack with bubbleishios should I do blackjack male to bubbleishios female or vice versa?
Also should I pollinate the whole plant or just one or two buds?
LOL The male offers the biggest gain, as it dictates power, taste, smell. The Fem gives it it's pheno type, thus the size, shape and yeilds. Chose the male by getting up early before daylight, scratch the stems and smell. The strongest one is the best, not the biggest!
Pollination is another person matter, depends on what you want to achieve. No one can tell you these matters.

don't listen to this rap, you are a breeder if you try to be!! Keep at it. Don't be discouraged
by others. Chose a good male, cross it with a good female that's the way it's done by the pro's, they just run much larger runs. You are looking for the "freak" in nature, the super freak. The more numbers in the run, the more likely to find something interesting. Low runs can produce something very special too. Just ask Chem Dog about that. He started with 13 seeds from a bag of herb. If he'd listen to the advise being offered to you by some, we'd never seen any of the Chem family. Go for it.

if i were u i would use only female to make my crosses that way u know exactly what goin into the mix. iv e had great success this way, and who wants to waste time with males?

this is a 4 way cross using all females (Molokai x cali indica) x ( billberry x Hawaiian Punch '86)
Okay Dude, beside not knowing what you are saying about males, I'll bite , , how do you cross two females?

The modern way to do it would be to sequence the plant's DNA and look for desirable traits. If you really know your stuff you splice a desired DNA segment from one plant into another. Say, you take one segment for THC production, one for max bud weight, etc. Then in a lab you simply insert those DNA segments.

Given the value of high quality bud I would be surprised if the strains you buy from over seas are created the old fashion way. Just about all the food you eat is now genetically modified via DNA splicing - I'd be surprised if top pot strains aren't. Selective breeding is more than likely a thing of the past for top seed banks.

But, if you would rather experiment by all means feel free.

:weed::weed:high lets say i dont have access to a microscope. how do i tell when trichomes are ready for harvest?
It's easier outdoors, but look at the light reflecting on the buds, you will notice an amber colour.
Personaly I wait a couple of weeks after no new pistols are growing.:weed:

Nobody here is going to be splicing dna. Breeding is a great thing for us to do as growers. you can develope new strains or can just make a certain strain easier for you to grow or you can breed for potency (most poeple put this at the top of thier list). you may not have the yeild per plant but you are making something that is uniqe. not to mention the hybrid vigor when plants are crossed. if both parents are good plants and you grow out a bunch of seeds pick out the best male and the best female. now you pollinate the female w/ wither the best male ( i consider inbreeding but most ppl do it.) or have a buddy hook you up with some pollen from another 'stud' from a differnet strain to perform a hybrid.

That is the basic basics. read up on it and breed your own custom plants. and if you can start with a really good plant. not some bag seed. its better to start at the top and improve them rather than making some chronic schwagg from mehico

mrs. garrison would probly have them scissor:hump:. but you can spray a flowering female with hormones and turn it into a male. almost like a hermie. it seems very unnatural to me but this would be how.
