I built these style pots back like 8 months ago with a grow that ended up being 1 plant. I wanted smart pots but couldn't afford the one I wanted and I was just not gonna wait a week for my pot to show up off the web. So I built one.
This one is way better then when I first made it but its also about 2 gallons smaller then the one I made before.
I used a polypropylene matting used for weed blocker but way way thinner than the fabric stuff. (has alot of benefits from what I've observed from my last grow.)
I take the material and get a rough measure of the diameter of the 5gal pot.(make sure you cut a little more then you need so you can make a seam.)
Fold it so it looks like a rectangle.(note: The strate edges of the material should be the top and bottom of the pot. Staple the edges together but leave one of the strate edges alone (its the top of the pot/sleeve.) then fold the edges you just stapled over about a half inch or so andstaple every 2 inches.
The pot it's self is a lowes 5gal with 12 square's cut in the side wall like a grid almost.
I drilled a stupid number of holes in the bottom and cut a square in the middle of the bottom bout 2in x2in the bag will be slighlt dipping threw this whole so it can wick excess water as it needs(and trust me these bags pick water up and horde it like the plants never gonna get another drink)
These pots do very well guys I had awesome result with it(obviously cuz I'm not buying smart pots or air pots) not bashing in any way as mine was inspired by the 2 of them. And it just so happened to work better then I thought.
Please don't start arguments with me or anyone else. This shit works real well and I think could do really well in full organic grows( you have to water more whether its organic or liquid nutes)
As long as you have your ppms right for liquid stuff. your plants will be feeding more but It pays off. My plant drank like my one dudes dwc.
Sorry if the pics are outta order. Sorry if they are not clear. If you need anything further let me know ill do what I need
To help you put it together. I know this post is all over the place, its on my phone what can I do.
