Boxing a carbon filter

Im running 2 600w lights in a 8 x 4 tent and there is really no more room for my large carbon filter inside the tent. Has anyone ever built a box for one that allows the tent air to get pulled outside of the tent and get filtered through the box?

y don't you just place the filter on the blowing side of fan? so your blowing threw filter rather than sucking? i do it this way and have had no problems, it saves you building an air tight box

conventional wisdom says that it's easier to "pull" air than it is to "push" air.

it could be possible to push the air through the filter if the fan was directly connected to the filter. tent>ducting>fan>filter. it wouldn't be the most ideal way to do it, but if the fan is strong enough it could work. I would try it and see, before i built anything. Though I'm not sure I understand what kind of "Box" were talking about.

When ever I clean off my pre-filter tons of dust comes out. The inside of the carbon filter does not have a pre-filter, so you would be packing it with dust more then likely.
I am just referring to blowing through a carbon filter rather then sucking through.

I do not see why a well built box would not work though. Do it!

Alot of carbon filters are predisposed to only run 1 way!

You would have to check with the manufacturer to make sure whether your filter works at the end of a run.

I too dont quite understand what you want to achieve either with a box.

In an 8x4 tent you should have plenty of headroom to fit the filter inside.

How are your lights etc setup?

Are you aircooling them and need the filter to work into the lighting system.

I completely understand what you're talking about and am too interested in what I could use that could house a gigantic 10X24" filter.
He basically wants to turn his filter into an INLINE filter so it can be housed outside the tent.
I could use a cardboard box I guess wrapped in shipping tape to seal it. Just cut a hole for the flange, hot glue it to the inside, and use a collar on the outside for air inlet.
It's so the air enters the box, goes through the filter, and out.
