Bottom Leaves looking bad? What is this?

I'm having a buddy water my plants while I'm on vacation. He sent me some pics of 1 of my plants I just started a few weeks ago. Everything was looking ok before I left but I don't know what this could be.. It has been a day or 2 longer than I usually wait to water, could they just be dried out a bit?

no..thats a nute imbalance of some sort..maybe burn from over fert.

whats your ph
what nutes and how much?

first thing no matter what the issue is
flush with plain ph'd water
make a new batch of nutes 1/2 (appropriate) strength for a day or 2 and then back to full strength (assuming your full strength isn't too strong)

ppm 350 to 400
or EC 0.6

would be close to the appropriate level of nutes in a full strength solution for a plant that size
so do maybe 300ppm for a 2 days and then bump up to 400ppm

keep your ph 5.5 to 6.2 range

I transplanted them into FFOF a week ago. No nutrients other than caliMagic & added some great white mycorrhizal. It's a soil grow with a top layer of hydroton to help evaporation etc. I PH RO water to 6.5

how much cal mag per gallon?

The bottle says 5ml per gallon but I've been doing 3-4 since for the smaller ones. Too many nutrients could make sense though since I just transplanted them from a soil with very little npk to FFOF. If that's the case I'm betting it'll just start getting better soon on it's own?

The top leafs are looking great & another plant that's a little smaller than that one is doing great too so maybe it's just that strain doesn't do well with as many nutrients?

prior to transplant where they in low heat potting soil..like happy frg or whatever

yes my bet is to void the cal mag

4mls of cal mag adds
13 Mg
34 of calcium
which is a good amount for those little ones

if your plants show magnesium def try using Epsom salt (magnesium shows up as leaf curl on margins like a canoe or taco and then later advancing shows with slight burn on margins

if your plants show calcium def (red freckles on lower fan leaves) then switch back to the cal mag

My thought was to wait at least a few weeks after transplanting them to FFOF before giving them any other nutrients(npk) even though some of my bigger plants I just topped for tge 2nd time have been on nutrients for a while now.

How long you think before they'd suck up the nutrients in the FFOF?

please again..anyone with more soil experience please correct me if im wrong

theyre are variables but on average I think the soil amendment from the bag requires almost no additional nutrients for 2 to 3 weeks depending on the size plant and pot and root mass

normally I would say let the plants tell you when there hungry and then feed them.. so when you see a small bit of yellow starting at the bottom then give them some nutes.. maybe something around 700ppm EC0.8 if there a foot tall by then

in this case you've got some discoloration from what we assume is a bit too much cal mag

you could give her a good soak to get the cal mag out but that might leach out your soil a bit and could require nutes a bit earlier possibly

Don't sweat it! Run them!

Available nutrition in OF is about done at 28 days.....It can vary but, use that as a baseline. The thing is, it's about how big the container is to the plant size to judge that.

Seedling in a solo - 24 - 28 days.
Solo to a 1 gallon transplant 28 more days.
1 gallon to a 3 gallon transplant 28 more days.

See what I mean?

The Ca/Mg availability in FFOF runs down over time.....it will not make it through a final transplant right before bloom to the end.
The use of 5ml/gallon of any available liquid Ca/Mg product on the market today.....Will not "hurt" a plant in soil that's reached 4-5 nodes...You should be using it at day 21 after transplants in FFOF OR add a heaping 1/2 cup to the whole bag and mix it in together real well before using the soil....no "cooking" time needed for that.
