Both Democratic and Republican administrations are targeting journalists

Even if that were factually accurate, you failed to support the premise of this thread.

"...are targeting..'' - to imply it is currently happening.

The question posed, name a Democratic administration that is "targeting-journalists", again, to imply current.

I presume you grasp the concept of tense?
Try reading the article. You might even manage to ask intelligent questions.

Yes she will. So what is your excuse for not voting? Last time around you could not even recall who you voted for hours before despite your extensive homework
I did my homework, voted and put it behind me.

Until the nomination process is freed from the influences of campaign finance abuse, little we do will make any difference.

I've discussed this with you before but it's like talking to someone still living in his mom's basement.

Honest journalism is one of the major enemies to an oligarchical consolidation of power. That's why journalists have been targeted by the powerful throughout history.

It's never been left v. right, it's always been up (rich) v. down (poor)
right, but every word counts especially now..what the article is saying is that IF a warrant is issued such as this, it MUST be signed off by someone in leadership like AG or DAG. typically, this is not the case warrants are issued all the time..this type of warrant is VERY tough to get to begin with..usually you have to have enough evidence of guilt that it's a no brainer. why would they issue a FISA?..Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. how many have been issued to date?

i understand media gets scoops and breaking stories but i like to triangulate my info and read carefully..one word makes a difference in how the story reads.

personally, i think the story kinda whips up trouble that's not there.

Those who believe these things aren't happening in America are deluded or lying.

So the reason you could not recall any of the candidates you voted for hours after voting was because you "put it behind" you? Really? After all that homework it just vanished from your head? Yeah, that's not very believable. And then you thrust forward your plaintive wail about how nothing we do matters until we get "campaign finance abuse" eliminated...

What are things a non-voter says, Alex?

You are so fucking lame. Go organizize somebody.

No it's not. It's objectively factual.

Both Democratic and Republican administrations have stifled journalism that accurately portrayed said administration in a negative light. I don't blame them, they saw what happened when journalists started accurately reporting on the war in Vietnam. Since then, both parties have stifled FOIA requests in regards to torture, drone strikes, constitutional violations, etc.

33,942. That we know about, everything FISA is automatically given a TS classification. It's a rubber stamp, but does have a few rules that the obama administration apparently played fast and loose with.

alternet is a propaganda outlet that supports the objectives of the right wing. Anything that comes from that site is suspect.

I just read the alternet propaganda piece to first lie. Didn't read the whole thing.

How can the article claim to be shocked and terrified about secret rules that were reported?

These secret rules, as Cora Currier reported for The Intercept, "apply to media entities or journalists who are thought to be agents of a foreign government, or, in some cases, are of interest under the broader standard that they possess foreign intelligence information."

"There's a lack of clarity on the circumstances when the government might consider a journalist an agent of a foreign power," Ramya Krishnan, a staff attorney with the Knight Institute told Currier. "Think about WikiLeaks; the government has said they are an intelligence operation."

come on man, the government does at times need to withhold information for security reasons. There do need to be guidelines. The guidelines obviously aren't secret or they wouldn't have been published for cripes sake.

In FACT, Wikileaks was used by Putin, Trump and right wing leadership to influence the election. Progressives(TM) -- assuming tty and pad reflect their beliefs -- were completely taken in by their voter suppression tactics. They repeated and magnified them

As with any good propaganda piece, there is some truth to the article. Democrats did withhold information more tightly than is reasonable while in power. To compare what Trump is doing with his daily attacks on the media as well as punishing and threatening news sites for publishing facts is where the article moves from reporting to propaganda. Calling news based media outlets fake news and encouraging acts of violence against reporters pales in comparison to anything that happened in the Obama administration.

Obama's administration never called for violence against news outlets. Not even ones that reported fake news about him.

Gunman angry at Maryland newspaper kills five in targeted attack

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Reuters) - A man who had a long-running feud with an Annapolis newspaper blasted his way through its newsroom with a shotgun on Thursday, killing at least five people in one of the deadliest attacks recorded on a U.S. media outlet, authorities said.

To say that Obama's administration is the same as Trump's in how they treat news reporting is naive.
