Im looking for the most effective blurple light that they make. i dont want to get ripped off on energy i want it to have a nice spread on it have a good spread and i prefer a more violet purple color over the pink hues does anyone have a light like this? Also itd be great to have a good diode for a decent lifespan

Foolish move. I made the same mistake. If you're really, really set on a blurple, I had the BESTVA 3000w. I had a romulan plant do alright under it, everything else remained stunted. Like 15 other strains.

I was hesitant to buy anything else from them, boy was I wrong.

BESTVA PRO 2000

That light in the link above saved my most recent crop, the plants are massive and I was able to watch the side-by-side comparison and there's no question the BESTVA PRO is on another level. It is so good 2 weeks later I bought another. For $180? On ebay.. whereas the BESTVA 3000w Blurple is even more expensive which is crazy, but true.

Also, the light doesn't get very hot. Cooler than the 3000w Blurple. With a fan aimed at it its warm at best. This means no ventilation needed if you're in a closet. A huge hassle gone right there. The meanwell driver and samsung diodes are considered top quality, with a dimmer knob, an on/off switch, trust me, there is no better deal out there...

So the plants grew slower or stunted under the blurple led but what about flavor/ potency?

I like using white/ blue light instead of white/yellow because I believe it might grow more potent weed even though growth might be slowed or plants stay shorter in comparison.

The new Fluence VYPR series offers various almost monochromatic SPDs, one of which has a diode efficacy of 3,7umol/W

That looks more pinkish purple than blue purple.

I had to tie up the branches they're so heavy. 89 NL on left, 90 Afghan on right. I haven't grown plants like this since my HPS days 2013ish. I quit growing for many years and was clueless to blurple/LED etc when I came back. LEDS were a new thing back then. It took a load of work to find these lights, I'm more than impressed with them. Especially for $180 shipped. You cant beat that. Every comparable LED board lighting is at least 250+

I will update on flavor, potency, etc when I'm through..

efficiency means 'much redshift', ie. blue only as much as necessary, red as much as possible, (almost) no green.

there's hardly any blue-emphasized blurple light out there, for what? the white diodes pump is a blue one as well so not much would be gained by such a design...

For potency.
Metal halides have more blue and they produce potent weed, although the plants don’t yield as much under them, from what I understand.
When I first started growing in 2013 I bought some blue and white led e39 light bulbs and wired them together into a DIY board. the lowryders I had started getting frosty under those blue and white leds at about 35 days (anecdote for what it’s worth)

The different parts of the spectrum influence plant morphology. A blue heavy light will tent to grow compact plants with low internodal space. Research tells us that as the percentage of blue increases, yield diminishes.

If there's research that red or blue change the quality of the crop, post the link or publish the study - it would be really interesting to read.

The leds I’ve got now are the bluest ones I could find (cheap viperspectra) they’re 4,500 k instead of the more common 3000, they produce sticky buds but the plants take forever to grow under them. I’ve also used 10,000 k MH with similiar results.
Now I’m using 4K MH so the plants will grow a little faster.

Well I did two runs when i first started wiith blurples and they didn't get stunted and they weren't small and the bud was fire. I had 470 watts (2x235) I feel like they did just fine.
I did a grow with a Kind blurple in 2017. The plant grew just fine. The issue with the blurple spectrum is that, lacking green light, it was really hard to detect issues with the plant. I used special glasses but it was still a PITA compared using a "white" LED today.

And, of course, PPFD maps were awful compared to today. Below is the PPFD map for the Kind 600 XL, Series 1 light which retailed for $600 in 2017.

Blurple technology if antiquated and any light using it today will, at best, tend to be low quality because, in a race to the bottom on price, you've got to do everything you can to cut cost or you go out of business. The PC clone business was the same way in the 80's and 90's.

Interesting. Last week I swapped a HPS and 5k MH for a 10k MH finisher lamp for the last weeks only. I have plans to use a 600W HPS on one side of the tent ceiling, and 2 250W MHs in 5k & 10k to get really a balanced broad spectrum.

"All our testing so far has shown that high UVA and near-UV from 395nm-420nm is equal to or better than UVB and UVA <395nm at increasing cannabinoid levels. What's more, high UVA and near-UV are cheaper to produce and potentially less damaging to plants and growers working underneath these lights."

Near-UV = blue/purple
