Blue Dream - Time for Harvest?

I have one Blue Dream and four Hawaiian Snow plants that are 8 weeks into flowering. I am going to give the snow another 2-3 weeks, but I was curious if you think the Blue Dream is ready for harvest? I started flushing the last two waterings just to be safe.

It's hard to tell from a photo, you really need to check your trichomes, I'd guess it's got a week, but don't trust mine or anyone else's guess get yourself a scope or jewelers loop and check those trichs

My intentions were to go based on the trichomes as I have a 30x illuminated magnifyer. When I look at a sugar leaf from about mid-range, I see that the trichs are cloudy. Which I find interesting because visually the Blue Dream looks a lot more mature than my four Hawaiian Snow plants which all have plenty of amber trichomes?

I was hoping someone might be able to gauge how much time is left by looking at the hairs and based on how swollen the calaxes look?

Yeah, I have a 30x magnifier and the trichs look mostly cloudly with a few clear and a few amber.

Keep up what your doing. Then I start harvest each bud, as the bud is all cloudy and turns a little amber. But that's old school. Others
will disagree they hack it down all at once!

Trust the scope and keep flushing. Have you stripped any vegatation or is this how your strain looks?

If I were to take only the top buds down, would I chop the top branches, or simply clip the nugs off the branch?

I was thinking about doing that to let the lower branches fully mature.

Yes, I take what ever cause the least stress for the plant. Fewer cuts on live plant.

That makes sense. I think I'm going to take the top nugs tonight and just clip the nugs themselves, as opposed to taking the entire branch... as to minimize stress to the plant. I'll try taking the remainder a week or so later.

Should I be aiming for cloudy trichs? Or are you an advocate of seeing a certain mixture of amber and cloudy?

I removed maybe 5-10 fan blades, which in hindsight, I wish I had left on. I thought I was closer to harvest than I actually was, and therefore started to clip the fan blades early to make the trimming easier.

get a magnifier and take closer observation on the trichomes. when they're cloudy and starting to turn amber it's harvest time. however it really is more of a matter of opinion. some people like to let the crystals get a little more on the amber side. some even about 80% amber or more. personally i aim for about 50/50 amber/cloudy. the more amber the more couchlock effect you will get. dont let it go too long though or your thc will degrade. i had some stuff i let got about 13 weeks in flower. good stuff but the flavor was off and didnt get you as high as the same strain harvested earlier.

At the end the calyx's swell and gain weight, mostly water, the pistils are completely retracted. There really are no white pistils left. If ur lucky enough to have a cool basement it helps bring out the purple in some strains I've grown this winter. That's another indicator. The whole amber thing has turned out to be baseless. Check out high times for the article. Thc is degraded and amber is the degraded result. Other cannabinoids are affected too. And they can give you more of a medicated couch lock effect. it's up to the grower.

Blue Dream is a Sativa or Sativa dominant correct? If you want the soaring heady high go for cloudy, I'd say mostly cloudy with a chance of amber

What I mean is I tend to error for a 10% amber rather than 10% clear. The more amber the more body, less heady the high.

Just to make sure I understand correctly, I should not take the trichome color into consideration? Instead a better indicator you're saying is to gauge how swollen the calyx is and how visible/which color the pistils are?

You want the trichomes all cloudy looking and plump. the pistils are completely retracted. There really are no white pistils left.
So is this as clear as mud? As we used to say? LOL Hope you can figure it out!
