Blackberry Kush/Strawberry Cough 4000w Grow Journal

New to the Forums. I've been looking around for a legitimate place to get feedback tips and critique and figured I'd begin a journal here!

I've just set up my first room 12x13 with two 4x9 Trays. 4x 1000 watt lights, 4x Digital Ballast adjustable from 600w/750/1000/1100 SuperLumens! (I haven't found much about blooming and the use of higher than 1000 watts but I'm interested if anyone has). Growing in Coco and Hand watering as needed. Trays Drain right out the floor. I have a 12" Vortex Exhaust w/ Carbon Filter, fresh air intake from under the house, and 6" Vortex Fan for all 4 Lights Coming from under the house and exhausting out the back of the house. Myself and the Room not so amateur due to living in the Tri-County NorCal Area and many friends growing as well. I've seen quite a few rooms and i tried to put together the best of all.

My clones unfortunately are going to be about one week apart, 2 weeks for several.

This Grow is going to be 20x Strawberrry Cough 20x Blackberry Kush 4x The Purp and 1x OG Kush (still to be decided but we want to smoke some OG!)

I received my first 2 and currently biggest veggers which are "The Purp". They arrived to me via beautiful aeroponic cloning about a week and a half ago we'll say 5/10/10.

I received 20 Strawberry Cough on 5/18/10.

Today on 5/20/10 I added and transplanted two more of The Purps to my veg process.

My biggest concern in my room is the somewhat large time between getting my clones in. Right now I have all my plants on one tray and my ceiling is very high with awesome adjustable ratchets for my lights, so plant height should not be an issues. I'm pretty sure with the 2 separate trays one for strawberry and the other for blackberry.

Blackberry Kush will be arriving on the 22nd!

As long as the comments roll i'll keep very up to date with this journal. Gime Tips anyone experienced.

Throw a handful of pics up taken with my iPhone so not the best. 2 big plants are The Purps. The rest are 20 strawberry cough plus 2 The Purps. Coughs are 3 days in the pots.

Gardens looking good! Few small problems hopefully someone can help guide me in the right direction. Biggest problem is my Strawberry Cough are going to end up vegging longer due to the fact our blackberry kush clones got fried. Probably getting 20 of them today or tomorrow. So my sativa is going to veg into monsters. Anyone have any tips with longer vegging 3-4 weeks with sativa?

A few plants showed droopy leaves today but also slight leaf edge curling and in a few cases a little bubbling. I don't think it's signs of overwatering, maybe a salt build up and not being able to expel moisture properly. Any tips?

My watering schedule has been thus far since i got the clones:

5/17 - transplanted
5/18 - 1st watering: PH 6.3 Water Temp: 79F 170 PPM (Vitamin B-1 added)
5/20 - 2nd watering: PH 5.8 Water Temp: 72F 900 PPM (cocos A&B + B1)
5/22 - 3rd watering: PH 6.2 Water Temp: 68F 580 PPM (cocos A&B + B1)
Today - 4th watering: PH 6.0 Water Temp: 70F 430 PPM (cocos A&B + B1)

After looking at this I think the curling must be from the original overdose of nuts. I may be overwatering a little as well, not sure. The pots feel relatively lighter but cocos holds so much water I'm not sure how dried out it should be before watering. I feel like the bottom of the pot where the holes are would stay wet forever its so spongy. Next grow I'm definitely going to mix perilite for better drainage.

I'm also looking for some input today on pruning! As u can see in a few pics of the largest plants (The Purps) the fan leaves are getting big and blocking some light. To prune or not to prune? I've seen so many arguments on the stress vs light blocking.

Constructive criticism is much appreciated! Can't wait to fill out my empty tray!

:joint: Smokin Headband and SourD Today! - Thanks all enjoy it

very nice, i was thinking of doing coco for my next grow, what coco nutes do you use? i was thinking i would try h&g there seems to be a lot of positive stuff about them, i was thinking i would do a 70/30 coco/roots707 mix and h&g nutes, or should i just grow them in straight coco... what do you think??? ive never done coco b4 but everyone raves there babies are the frostiest and tastiest they ever had...........

and i think your ph is a little low, that's why your leaves are drooping a little, shouldnt it be around 6.5?, after all its growing in coco not just water like in hydroponics where is have to be 5.5-6.0

subscribed!! ill definetly watch how this coco performs

Thanks aero, Coco's not the same as soil cause it doesn't contain any nutrients at all so its pretty much hydro material. I'm using B'CUZZ. I think the PH is supposed to be about the same but ill have to research it maybe i should raise it slightly. I havent tested the actual coco PH or runoff level so i should probably check that out next watering if they don't look perfect after this one. What's the roots707 mix? I'm surprised i havent heard of it.

Next grow i'm probably gona mix something in for a little better drainage especially at the bottom of the pot coco holds so much water it'll never go completely dry it seems.

I'm tryin out coco's A&B cause its made for coco. Theres others out there but I cant try em all at once. Sucks cause every strain and nutes different. I'm using Advanced Nuts for all my other additives.

yeh i was thinking idk us the coco's A&B too, yeh the root707 has been at my hydro store every since i got into growing about 2 yrs. ago, hhave you ever heard of the cocofiber mix roots does, i was either going to use a straight coco mix, coco/root707, or try out that roots cocofiber, the only problem with the roots cocofiber is i cant find anybody thats got any info on it

Room Update!

Last night we transplanted 18 Blackberry Kush and 5 OG Kush! We were expecting 19 BlackberryK and only 1 OGK for fun but hopefully I can crank at least a 1/2P out of these 5.

The Clones are on the small side came in Rockwool, 4-5 clones per 4x4 cube. Hopefully they all catch on well and take off! One of the OG got snapped while transplanting we're going to attempt to revive him but chances are he'll die, and possibly 1 of the blackberry may not make it but I'll leave no man behind.

The room is now:
20x Strawberry Cough
19x Blackberry Kush
4x Strawberry Cough
5x OG KUSH
Total: 48 Plants!

All 4 Lights are now on, the clones watered last night and the other tray watered this morning.

The one seed I'm playing with is taking off at an insane rate. Sadly I'll have to remove him from the room before I get to have any fun. I'd hate to risk the well being of all my females!

Only problem in the room right now is a slight gnat/whitefly ? problem just starting. Going to snag a few traps later today or tomorrow fix it up real quick.

Comments are appreciated please post your input! Thanks!

:joint: Smokin HeadBand and SourD Still! Toke up :)

Plants are lookin good bushing out nicely. I dont think I mentioned it earlier but when I topped my plants (not all are topped about 7 arent and all the new clones obviously arent) I used the FIM method. Never know till you try it. Most plants seem to be developing a ton of tops.

Having trouble with a few gnats but other than that the plants seem to be thriving and waiting to be watered tomorrow! Clones are picking up a little it seems but no real improvement. None dead so far.

The seed is taking off so fast. Not sure if I should hold onto it till it shows signs or not. I'd hate to risk any contamination of my females!

Here's a few new pics, healthy The Purps, Strawberry Cough, Blackberry Kush and OG! and headband seed.

Anyone post any input! Comments appreciated..

Nothing really new except for TONS of growth. The clones are starting to finally root and perk up nicely should see them start to take off soon. I'm glad I chose to FIM my strawberrys because there's almost too many tops to count on some of them. Hopefully they all fill out and aren't a ton of tiny tops. Trial and error. Anyways if anyone has any experience on Strawberry Cough, Blackberry Kush, OGKush, or The Purps any comments would be appreciated! I always like to get outside opinions, so post away. Thanks!

Tight room. If you want things to air out in the pots try smart pots or somehting like them. I am pretty sure they've helped my yields and there is definitely more root in the pot with them over plastic.

Have you heard any tips on topping th bbk? I've got some cuts and my friend never tops anything so I wanted to see if anyone had more experience with them. Thanks!

Thanks over. This is my first run personally but I got the clones from friends who've grown blackberry Kush. It kind of depends on the cut I'm probably going to FIM a few of them, but most cuts seem to bush out nicely. It's really a plant by plant decision how to keep your crop unified and full of tops. I'm leaving a few of each untopped though just to learn the difference.

What kind of pots are you using? I've got some 4gal pots. My friend uses 2 Gal pots him and I started a few of the same plants at the same time and mine seem to be almost twice as big. The drainage might not be so great theres only a few holes in the bottom. But the plants seem to LOVE the big pots :)

Happy growing. Im all in! subbd
i got a blazin mystery seed flowering and im just starting a afgani goo x OG Kush strain outdoor.

Yeah, most of mine are really bushy, maybe I'll top a few that arent so. I'm using smart pots, .83 gal for cuts, then 3 gallon then 5, I'd go straight to the 5 but my veg tent is too small, actually next time I'm gonna do that and just have fewer - I bet the yield would be the same per watt. I wish I had some pics of my roots but trust me, it's crazy, busting them up is hard work!

Thanks for all the support! The more the merrier I'm having fun putting new stuff up here and inputs always appreciated!

@Norma - Thanks! Not many people use CFL's around here maybe for vegging but I'm interested how they work and they're probably a lot less expensive. After this grow I'm debating how to set up a mother/cloning room, seeing what you all have out there  I'll check yours out for sure.

@Pass - Happy growing to you too! Funny i've been smoking afgoo and OG lately but what's the cross called?? Sounds goood! I wish i could grow outdoor but where i'm at it'd disappear for sure lol.

@Tagh - Sorry no seeds! The only seed in that room I found in a sack of Headband a week ago. I love how seeds grow though so perfect and uniform. Definitely not downplaying my clones though :) I was looking I'm not even sure you can get Blackberry Kush as seeds. pretty sure its clone only in NorCal here.

@Over - Wish i had the money for nicer pots but maybe next run. How big is your veg tent? and your flowering? How many plants total are u flowering this time? I'm interested what other people do per light and size.

Another watering again today. Not much new with the room except changed up some of the air system to keep the air as fresh as possible! Cut a few more ventilation spots and took out some unnecessary ducting.

The Strawberry Cough is looking amazing all except for one which has some slight discoloration and is a little smaller than the rest.

The Purps are Big and Bushy waiting to be flowered!

One blackberry Kush is doing awesome theres a few pics of it in here, the rest are all catching up. As well as the OG Kush. Forgot to take a pic of the headband seed but next time.

I really need a good camera! Sorry that these pics arent that great of quality. The leaf that my hands under is from the strawberry.

All the lights are about 2' above the main tray and probably 2.5' above the smaller kush only tray. Still all 4 on 600w. I'll probably turn them to 750 a day or two before flowering on 1000w.

The plan is to get these babys goin for another week, top if necessary, then in 2 weeks from now begin flowering if all's well. No more than 3 weeks till flowering, the strawberry are going to get out of control already!

CaLi4NiA3 you got some nice lookin plants. A nice set up too.
How long are you vegging your plants for? (Sorry if you said before)

@Over - Wish i had the money for nicer pots but maybe next run. How big is your veg tent? and your flowering? How many plants total are u flowering this time? I'm interested what other people do per light and size.

The pots are actually pretty reasonable and there are others now that are even cheaper. C.A.P. makes one iwth handles. veg is 2x4 and flower 4 x 8 but it's not packed b/c veg is small and I don't need that much. Just 8 plants. I think that if I had to choose between big smart pots and little starter ones (instead of cups) I'd get the little ones, I'm telling you the way the roots grow is amazing. Anyway, best of luck I'm gonna make the decision on topping in the next day or so - I'm so tempted to do "uncle ben's" topping technique, where you go all the way down to the 2nd node on seedlings or the 4th branch on clones. Makes sense cause you'd have all of those older strong branches holding the weight of your main colas. I did a seedling down to the second node (after they get 6) and it was hard to so but she looks beautiful. Its a dutch passion strawberry cough seed and you can see 4 perfect tops growing uppus new growth filling up the gap in the middle. I just don'w know if something that aggressive will hurt these. Plus it's just hard to cut like that, but I bet in two weeks I'd be sitting back talking about how great they look!
