ok, I am reading about the black widow over at Rhino seeds,
Black Widow

it says: "a highly recommended strain for amateur breeders - the male being preferable"

What does that mean, the male being preferable??????
I've never heard of such a thing!

Black Widow is real paranoia maker...few years ago our dealer was selling BW..all I can say, smoke is nice, buds smell a lot,and you getting fucking paranoid,I got and all my mates got, thats why it`s called Black Widow...will never grow this strain, thanks!!

Black Widow. Where does it come from? Curios...........................

Hank.

This is very old thread by that cop Videoman but as far as Blackwidow. When the 2 guys who started greenhouse seeds had a fallen out the one who left and started Mr Niceguy seeds took all the original stock with him.Black widow is the original white widow.Greenhouse had the name locked but he had the breeding stock. Just like white rhino and great white shark. Mr nice has all the original cannibus cup winners and greenhouse had to try to back cross to make similar but not the original strains

that means that if you want to cross black widow with some other strain use male black widow rather than a female

I know this is an old thread but I think it contains a good question that never got an answer. I have a cross that is supposed to contain this strain that I will be putting under 12/12 this weekend. It is supposedly a cross between Vietnam Black and (G13 x BW). I’m interested in the genetic history of these strains.

I think it’s fairly obvious that Mr. Nice Seedbank is telling us the male is preferred when crossing this strain with another. However, the real question is why, or how that is known to be true?

I have only recently begun to learn about the finer points of breeding and how genetic traits are passed from parents to seed. I do not yet understand how either the male or female sex could have a consistent advantage over siblings of the opposite sex when it comes to desirable genetic material. It also seems that choosing the right male for a cross is one of the more difficult decisions a breeder can make. Having a breeding strain with previously identified strong male genetics could be a great asset.

Could anyone clear this up for me, or point me in the direction where I can research the topic in greater depth?
