we had two dogs when i was a kid, and my dad didn't want to pay to put them up for three days, so he left a big bag of food and a couple of five gallon buckets of water on the porch. they had the dog door, we lived on the farm still at that time, no problems, ought to be enough food for two dogs for three days. we got 2 hours down the road and had car problems. we limped back home 3 hours later. in 5 hours, the larger dog had eaten a 10 pound bag of food and was laying there bloated and moaning. the smaller dog was just happy we came back. i think he was worried he was going to be next.

LMAO

My dog has had a bowl full of dry kibble available at all times his whole life. He doesn't know the meaning of the word hungry and he's never eaten too much. Unless it's barbeque night...

So I got the cat an automatic feeder where I was out of town.

Yea. Not going to do that unless it's needed. All the pussy does is eat and shit.

Back to measuring food.
Consider getting a second one for redundancy. I bought one, didn't trust it to not fail, so bought two, set them up to alternate feeding. If the single feeder fails while you're gone your poor kitty can get into serious trouble.

Nah. Cats are smart. It will dig the food out. It was only for a couple days.

I've used many different types of automatic feeders over the years and haven't seen one not work besides the batteries going dead on those kind.

The cat will stick it's paw in the gravity feeder before it starves to death.

My BIL breeds coon hounds. He has to put them on the auto feeders for at least a week before leaving or they will eat it all the first day. After they are used to it, they will eat their normal amount.
