Made my super soil with black gold earthworm castings blend. They sold it at my local hydro store after looking high and low for some. Has anyone used this product for their supersoil or did I eff up? I'm hung up on the word "blend". Is this real ewc or some conditioned soil?

WestCoast, why do you keep your soil in totes while "activating" it?? Just wondering. Every time I make a mix up and activate I just leave it in a pile covered with a layer of straw then covered with burlap sacks I wet down for good 02 contact and to keep the pile damp. But I also have 5 acres to work with so an odd pile of dirt here or there isn't a issue. I also turn it once a week to keep prevent any anaerobic spots from fouling it up. Have you noticed any really funky smells when removing the soil from the totes??

Black Gold is not quality earthworm castings.

It is black humus from the bottom of bogs or ponds.

If you want quality castings, purchase from A-Worms-Tale.Com or Worm Power.

BLACK GOLD lists their Castings Blend as: Earthworm castings, Canadian Sphagnum peat moss, and they mention a fertilizer charge (0.8-0.0-0.0).

Cornell University has tested Worm Power and various worm castings producers and shown there is a great deal of differences.

The University of Georgia tested Amazing Worm Castings, showing over two times the growth.

There are photographs of both studies on the internet.

Thanks for the tip. I spoke with the operator of A-Worms-Tale this week and he makes a compelling case for how his castings are superior. Even though they are expensive, I plan to travel to Utah and pick up a load. I'll keep you posted on results.
