Biodegradable pots requiring a lot of attention

I was told that when I used these pots I should leave them very wet so that the roots may grow out of them, but in my experience I ended up killing quite a few plants like this, so now I am taking it a bit easier on the watering, but as you can see they look quite good on water... these pots are kind of tricky, they dry up quick. I watered from the bottom today.. does anybody have some tips for these pots? I’m probably going to cut one open a bit at the bottom and get an idea of what the roots are growing like, thanks all

I use them & find them great for seed starting, easy to maintain proper moisture, & easy to transplant, either in the pot or cut it off.

Don't do anything yet
Those roots have tiny invisible to the eye hairs that will be damaged this young and slow growth
Stop doing things to change your plants environment
Wait a couple weeks before transplanting or slow down your grow needlessly

I won’t touch em then! Just hoping that the roots will grow okay, I find that they air out very quickly. It’s good I’m injured at home now and have time to watch over them

it was one of the people at a vegetable and fruit nursery, they probably thought I’d be growing something else outdoors

It’s hard to keep it just right, seems I keep getting it on the wet side and letting the air dry it out over time. I guess now that they look overwatered I’ll just have to wait til they dry out again which I hope won’t be as soon as tonight! The cups today felt like they still had a bit of moisture in them but I watered them anyway. That may have been my mistake, I could have waited, but I wanted to feed them from the bottom today, which I hope is a good idea with these

Thats what you want.

Water then wait for it to dry out then water again.

If you dont wait for the dry up you end up killing your plants due to root rot.

You do not need to keep the peat pot wet. Treat it like a normal pot and just worry about keeping the soil inside watered. When it comes time to transplant into a bigger pot just soak the entire thing in a tub of water and plant the whole thing or skip that and just tear off the peat pot and plant.

You don't need to feed from the bottom. Just water normally.

Thank you!! I’ll treat it like normal then!
THIS ^^^
Let em dry, they love a dry environment
Gotcha! Thanks

It's true. If you water from the top they never get soggy and the roots can't break through. If you water from the bottom by sitting them in a tray, they get soggy and the roots can poke through. They can get some mold on them though if the mold spores are in the air but I never worry about it.

F08D6ABB-4010-4D2E-B9EA-27C54414CA27.jpegcouple days later they are quite dry by now it seems but two are going yellow, I’ve had this before from root rot. do you all think it’s bout time for water? Gonna spray them this time as i feel like I overdid the watering on those taller ones

Seems it’s the soil that is not loose enough, I should have thought about that before, took one seedling out of the peat pot carefully and saw after two days it was still moist at the bottom.. just gonna leave these alone for now.. added one more seed in a plastic grow pot to germinate in the room and have 10 seeds coming in today.. I think I’m gonna have to add perlite to my mix
