Big Jake and the 3 Sour Al's

Howdy farmers.
10 days ago i recieved a 400watt hps light and 3 yellowing seedlings that I knew nothing about. I dug and did my research and got the babies healthy in their new home and went to work trying to figure out exactly what I was devoting so much love to. Well eventually my trail led to a dispensery in Boulder and a nice lady with great news. She was able to decipher the scribbles on the seed pack i recieved with the rest of the stuff..I have 3 Sour Al ( Sour Kush x Alberts Haze)babies! I was very pleased with this info and felt it was time to start my journal. All comments are welcome- this is my first shot at growing gods favorite plant, and I'm well aware of how much i need to learn, but so far so good.

The attached pic is the runt of the litter and is just a teaser. I will post better pics later this afternoon.

I have them in almost straight coco- I mixed crab shell, grasshopper shit and a little soil in with it.
I am going mostly organic and am staying away from the expensive nutes. I have a couple of colorado born products and am also using Neptunes Harvest as well as Microbe Life products.

Once again all comments are welcome- Im not offended easily lol.

Put it in the air friends!

Good job bringing the plant back to better health. I'm not familiar with Sour Al but it sounds interesting. One thing I am noticing is that the soil doesn't appear to have good drainage. It may be prone to getting water logged if you water too much. Make sure it dries out to the point of the pot feeling light before you water again and don't over water, just until some water runs out the bottom of the pot. If you can get some perlite, mix that in with the soil you will be using when you next transplant in a few weeks. Good Luck

Hi Cascadian,

From my research i was under the impression that i should never let the coco dry out too much. Am I correct in this thinking? The mix is literally 90% coco. I use the weight of the pot method but also just my finger.. If i go into the soil to the second nuckle and none sticks to my finger coming out i have been adding water, thoughts? I do plan to pick up sone perlite when i transplant to the 3gal pots in a few weeks. Thanks for the input!!
Jake.

I am not an expert on coco, I missed that for some reason in your first post. My guess is that you are on the right track with watering using your second knuckle method. I do think adding some perlite will help you out when you transplant in a couple weeks. Good luck man, maybe some people with more experience with coco can chime in and help you out.

Peace,
Cascadian

Thanks for the honesty! I was looking through your journal and i like what youve got going. Good luck to you, sir!
Jake.

Ok well heres a lame update with no pics. Sorry.
I was watering the ladies and noticed that one had severe curling in some of the leaves.. I figured maybe overwatering/feeding so i picked up the pot to see how heavy she felt and what the drainage holes could show me... Well there was a root about a half an inch long sticking out of the bottom drain hole (1 gal pot) I made a hasty decision and transplanted to a 3 gal aero pot with the same mix ingredients for thw grow medium. Hope this wasnt a bad decision... Roots looked white and thick so i am not terribly worried.

Sorry for no pics. My laptop crashed and uploading off my phone is a drag. Im gonna look at the app and see if i can get some snaps in this sorry ass journal!

Jake

Best of luck on ya first grow Jake! This is my first year of tending to the herb and I'm spewin' I didn't start sooner! I agree with Cascadian - I now mix with perlite and throw a little peat-moss in if I'm worried about loosing too much moisture as it gets very dry out here in the outback. Anyhow, consider me sub'd mate :D

Thanks for checking in and speaking up! The perlite is something i am going to try. I figure i better swap the other 2 into their final buckets soon so i need to earn some dough and get a new brick of coco and a small bag of perlite. I hate being unemployed! Thanks for the sub. I imagine growing down under has a lot of challenges we dont have here in the states lol

Good morning pic. The little girl who got the transplant seems to be ok and the other 2 continue steady growth. I am glad i backed off the feed/ water.. The leaves that were folding in are flattening out again. A little droopy in spots.. Let me know what yall think!

Update-

2 of the Sour Als remain- one was a manly fellow so I terminated him with extreme prejuidice. There are 2 phenos here... I can barely believe its the same seeds.. Sorry for the sideways pic I am posting from my mobile
The pics are from day 23 and 25 of 12/12. Anywhere from 75-80 day temp and 65-70 night temps. Still using microbe life and neptunes harvest. Thinking of getting some more bloom geared nutes this week when i pick up a grow tent.
Both have been topped once and "kinda" super cropped. The flower development looks good to me, I look forward to your input

Thanks for the pics Jake! Lookin good so far brother. If the super-cropping is getting results, why stop? I'm new to SCing and have had some great results with my ML'd girls - the stress done early in my grow has saved me with their ability to bounce back from adversity and also helps maintain a nice, even canopy. Game on Jake!

Hey thanks! Congrats on your wedding, brother!! The only reason I stopped the bondage was fear of out growing my space lol. Its fun! Being involved and disrupting hormones and such... What a great hobby. Game on indeed!!

Many pretty tops poking up. Loving this pheno.. The short girl is not picture worthy- very resinous but no mass to speak of. Thinking 25 more days? How much should i expect my tall girl to swell over this next month?

As pictures show I have two phenos, one very sativa and one little indica that didnt respond to topping the way Id hoped, however I have been defoliating as per advise recieved from a great friend. Since the last and final defoliation the flowers have exploded with resin sites. I think so anyways lol

The girls are doing great. Loving the new feeding regim with roots organic replacing the neptunes harvest now that we are in full flower. I plan to pick up 2 teenage clones and have a small selection including Deathstar, Jack Herer, Platinum Bubba OG. Im hoping to add 2 of the OG to the garden but I will just be grabbing the two most mature clones my pal wants to get rid of.. So more to come on that.

The tall girl is starting to smell super funky.. Like lemons and fruity pebbles wraped in a gym sock.

The shorty is super dooper lemony with a small pine note as well.. None of the funk though. I cant wait to try! Still thinking Im looking good, if Im wrong let me know lol

Jake

Ok- so the SAGE n Sour gal has been pruned down to fit my closet and I started bondage yesterday. I plan to get a tomato cage for her, very vine like plant.

Close-ups of the indica dominant Sour Al hybrid. Not very big but super sparkly! Any guess on when i should start to flush this one? I want these buds to fatten up!

Lord-now the pics are up side down. Great journal, this.

Quick update: tonight i started the germ. Process of a bagseed(golden goat X blue dream)
If it sprouts I will be stoked- the flowers were so super tasty, not the most potent but super sweet.

Great job keeping the plants healthy and green through flowering! No signs of deficiency.

The indica Sour Al looks like it needs more time with the nutes before you start the flush to me.

Sage n Sour I have read is some great smoke!
