Is there a specific white paint that you guys think is superior to other white paints? A specific shade or brand.. or method?

Just make sure that you do not buy flat white ceiling paint. Flat white ceiling paint is different from regular flat white paint. Because glare from lights or sun coming through a window is not something that people want to see on a ceiling, the paint tends to be dead flat, with no reflective value.

Some of what I have read about it says it has a reflectivity of around 90% & up to 97.2%, depending on how much Titanium dioxide it has in it.

Other things I have read said the reflectivity of flat white Titanium paint is not equal/even across the different light spectrums and will vary from brand to brand due to the different amounts of Titanium dioxide it has in it so it might be better and it might not be better.

How do you get over 100% reflectance? Was that a joke? And is flat white paint really better than Mylar? Cause I had my walls painted flat white, and now I have Mylar covering them... are you all saying I should remove the Mylar and go back to the white paint?

Ive also seen flat white paint mixed with TEFLON. Having the teflon supposedly makes it easier to clean, because the dirt won't cling to the paint- which is very common in flat paint.

Mylar is more reflective than flat white paint. The only problems with it is many people go cheap and buy the thinner Mylar and it tears easily and it is not easy to keep clean so its reflective capability can drop over time. But just comparing flat white paint to clean well-applied thicker Mylar, Mylar is definitely better.

Now, on the "well-applied" part of that (thanks for the answer, btw)... I've got it on the walls as best I can, but it definitely ripples when the "wind" blows... bare minimal of creases in it after 6 months. Does this sound about right, or does it truly need to be completely flat? The problem is I've got it over a concrete wall, so I can only secure it at the top and bottom... thanks again...

Check out the white elastomeric roof paint. It's in the roofing section of Lowe's/Home Depot. Label says 97% reflective. It is made to cover a roof so it is super durable and impervious to cleaning. And it is rather cheap. A 1 gal can for around $20 will cover 50-100 ft2.

Wow, what an amazing coincidence. I picked up a can of white roof paint just 2 hours ago at Home Depot. It's not the same stuff you linked - mine only claims to be 90% reflective, not 97%. I'm planning on painting my flowering chamber with it tomorrow. If I can locate a can of that 97% stuff in my area, I'll give it a whirl, but the website says there isn't any to be found in my area.

Meanwhile, I'll keep you guys posted on the stuff i got today - 90% reflectivity, if it's true, would put it on a par with panda film, and be much easier to keep clean. Not bad for 6 bucks a gallon.
