Basically. I have the money to buy a black dog LED but since i haven't grown before, i dont want to waste a great light on "experiments" basically. I want to have a light that i can play with for a while until i am ready to throw down the real cash. Plus, if i save my money now, i have more to invest in stocks, and i make good money on stocks so by the time i am ready to actually buy a great light, i may have enough cash for two lights instead :)
Any suggestions?

Hey, saving money is always nice and I can't argue with that. I started with a Blackstar, it was cheap and gave me fluffy buds. Then I spent a lot more on an Advanced LED light. I'm not trying to be an a-hole, but what kind of "experiments" are you planning on doing? If it were me, I'd get a good light and "experiment" on tomato plants or something. Then you can dial in your temps and everything else before you grow seriously. Furthermore, if you start with a crappy light, any insights from your growing won't be too useful. You will have new temperature and nutrient issues with a more powerful setup. If you're not really serious about growing your own good buds indoors, then I'd just toss a couple seeds outside in my favorite secluded country spot. That way you won't waste any money on a setup that you're not really going to use. Just my opinion....

Not worth it to waste the money on piss-poor quality... Not with LEDs, IMO. Some companies do have lifetime warranties, you know...

SnotBoogie is right, there needs to be a sticky to point all these people to...

I am just looking to have some fun with an led light. i dont want another type of light. I believe led to be the best from research i have done. I understand i will have variances in temperature and nutrient needs with different lights, but i am just looking to grow some plants indoors and i dont want to use up hours on a Black Dog yet. I feel like i dont need the best light right now. Just something to get my feet wet with indoor growing please. This is not a hard question! Nobody has really answered yet with any light suggestions.

Oh, it's not a hard question? The irony...

You want a suggestion? Get two of these and have a ball.

You have nothing in mind, yet?

lol those look like pieces of shiz. No, nothing in mind because I dont know anything about the knock off led grow companies on alibaba or any of those sites. But I am now sorta leaning to just screw it and get a Black Dog. But I still want to see what my options are and evaluate them too.

camdengolf: I think understanding that LED growlights are a (new) frontier might help understand the type of feedback you're going to receive in regards your OP. In my limited observation thus far, there is a reluctance to accept LED Grow Lights into the general growing community by traditionalists in said community. Further, the types of lights that you will find described as "knock off Brand Name L.E.D. grow Lights" are responsible for much of the bad reputation that this new frontier has garnered (as well, has companies that practice poor business ethics and will sell a low quality product for top dollar that just does not produce results worth the investment). These "knock off" lights, in general (as there are some folks who will enjoy some of the "drop shipped" LED lights) have produced less than adequate results, and misrepresent the potential of LED grow lights.

Many of the active members in this sub-forum are interested in the true potential of this technology. You will be hard pressed to find recommendations from them for "Cheap, knock-off LEDs" that will give results that are not equal to the potential of the technology, and will ultimately create a poorer climate for LED Grow Light technology. Why would they recommend something that will, in the end, possibly give you a bad idea of LED Grow Lights, which in turn may cause you to further disseminate to the forums, an unsatisfied view of LED?

If you experiment with sub-par equipment, then your results will be sub-par. In fact, if you are "experimenting," then you should be looking for something of a high quality or else your data will be compromised, and you will likely have little genuine information in the end.

So what other "type" of light do you have if you are just now getting your feet wet in indoor growing? I think you should really step back and take a look at what ppl are telling you, or research more. It is a simple question, like boogie said, simple enough to be "sticky worthy" and have millions of new growers using this vary question as basis to their entire situation.. but you, yourself, need to do diligent researching before passing that level of disregard.

That being said... I personally think this panel is sweet... yes, the chrome gives it a cheap look. But is that what matters... ? no.

- 56 Watt Cree XP-E and Rebel LED Power, total power consumption max. 65 Watt
- 3 selectable positions; (1) Seedlings and cuttings, (2) Mothers and Early weeks of flowering, and (3) Full flowering position. Easily selectable by Switch
- 4 Royal Blue XT-E, 27 Red XP-E 501 and 2 DeepRed Rebel Led's
- Each Led has it's own reflector, either 106 or 123 degrees, therefore optimal control of the light pattern
- Metal Core PCB for the very best cooling

You got on here asking for a no name brand... that alone shows how serious you are about indoor.. So why should he... or I, seriously research into what is your best option?

(Blackdog is reputable, but their LED's are clustered together- not taking advantage of their angle, whatsoever... over powered in too tight of a space..)

Get on ebay and look for the coolest, most sleek panel you can find, and sign me up for your journal.

I don't see a link but I gather from the info that you are recommending a Hans Panel? If so that's at http://www.bonsaihero.com/ledgrow.html From what I've seen in journals and a reasonably honest description (whodda' thunk that was even close to possible in the LED manufacturer world?!) on his web site, I'd have to agree that it's a solid recommendation. Two panels are even within budget, should provide good service and are easier to manage lighting the canopy evenly too since there are TWO panels to move independently and newbies (heck even experienced folks at times) can/will have canopy management issues...and two panels gives more even light coverage than one can.

You could try Link Solar Electric (Everdream brand). They look like the Penetrator about 2 bills. Better yet try a Solar Flare from California Light works.
