Hi I’m new to growing but I wanted to know what light I should use for a 5x5 grow tent. I’m looking for a light with 1200 true watt’s on a budget

The thing is if you post this on forums you’ll only get (hopefully) recommendations from people who have had success with what they’re doing and how they’re growing.

choosing indoor lighting should be based off your growing goals

if I may: this is a very enlightening video.

perhaps it will help you choose your lighting.

Thank you for this video, this video has been very helpful and gave me a boost of knowledge. What I’ve learnt from this video is that I should get a grow light with cool light with a little bit of far red light. My goal is to get at least 2-3 oz a plant

What’s your budget
do you have all the proper ventilation needed for your space
do you have a plan to deal with 1200w of heat in a 5x5

just a few questions.

I’m a first time cannabis grower but I do have some good knowledge of certain biologies.

I haven’t grown herb indoors so I can’t provide you the best insight for real world experience.

if you do go with LEDs id stick with ones that are presenting white light. White light grows Plants and you can clearly SEE the leaves. This is something a lot of growers do not consider. What the human eye can see. If we present cool white light we’re going to be able to observe our specimens/crops better.

you get all fancy after this with the reds and blues and the multiple channels of lights and the 80% intensity this week and blah blah blah.

someone’s probably going to reem me for being a newb and talking about products I haven’t used...

but all I’m saying is approach every light with skepticism.

These go in and out of stock but they can be had for $300. Ballast will run you 150. Bulb 100 (get the ushio or philips 1000w double ended hps). You need a very tall tent to run them at 1000-1150w or they will burn your plants (think 7'11'' or 8'11'' gorilla tent). This is what i run in my 5x5. I just ordered a tent that i will be able to get the light up to about 88 inches (right now its at 78 and its to low, can only run at 825w)

HPS is well proven technology. The large majority of commercial growers are running 1000w DE fixtures.

My budget is around £400-600. I’ll be using a carbon filter with the fan. The fans cpm is 460 so it’s 10 cfm more than recommenced. If I need I’ll probably put bigger fans if the heat becomes to much. I was thinking of using either 1 spiderfarm sp4000 or 3 HLG qb96 elite v2

Weather or not your a noob all advice is helpful for me so thanks for your advice

630watt CMH + 2x 240 watt quantum boards. Far from enought for 5x5
I run 1000 CMH + 2 X 240watt quantum's 3.2 umol/j in a 8x4x9 space. The results are lemon and grape fruit size buds.

The sf4000 is a 450w light. Werent we talking 1200w???? You could use a single sf4000 in a 4x4 tent.... but even that would be considered underpowered.

I’ll probably use this setup in the near future. I hear hps bulbs can get you yields of up to 16 oz a plant. Thanks for your advice

How much does this setup cost because right now I could get 3 HLG qb96’s with the driver for less than £400 and I hear they are quite good

i dont think thats enough light for a 5x5. 3 of them 240 watt qbs would be great for that size. You need abyut 600 true watts of quality leds , evenly spread over the 5x5.......or just grab a 1000 watt hps of any brand.
