What does using co2 do exactly , and I was wondering if you could just use co2 tanks instead of the bags ? or will it just mess up my plants ?
benefits/pluses of using co2 ?

Co2 generators use propain gas and work well. You get more yeild from you plants. Makes your room hoter. HydroGen is a water cooled one.
