the strains you have been seeing are wi fi, royal kush and, mango under various wattage and lights... had an aphid problem last year!!!! good god im glad thats over those are some tough little bastards!!! you just short of have to kill your plants to get rid of them!!! came back after several harvests after being convinced they are wiped out. started pasteurizing my medium after it comes from the store and in between grows and low and behold they are gone as well as fungus gnats.

the times i have cleared out the bottom 1/3 of my plants did give me bigger buds for the plant. All depends how far the light can reach into the plant. my avator shows a 2 oz dried bud it would have been 3 but it wouldnt fit into the jar so i took 1/3 off the top. that one was 40% defoliated with 8 tops in a 5 gal AIS.

at what point did you decide to defoliate? my method is i let them suck the green out first then i take them. they will be wet but will easily pluck in my had if they want to hang on i typically let them.

i see flowres starting and stretch is done I then on taller plants see how far the light can reach into it. from that point down its gone. there is no reason to leave them if no light can reach them. this weekend i will check them out. and will do 3 that dont have side lighting and then i will have a test 3 with and 3 without. now they are 6' tall right now.

i have used led for side lighting before it worked really well and greatly influenced the shapes of the plants. i just don't have the electical capacity in my house or the cash to bank roll a whole other set lights in my room so for now i have only been doing top down : ( after testing it and validating this method. the next question is which is more efficient per watt? 4k arranged with side lighting or 4k with only top down. i wouldn't mind more consistant buds from top to bottom to save space and ease of trimming but is it going to give me the same or better yeild?
