Baseball bat stalks

Hey I wanted to ask when I see guys with plants that have stalks as big as a bat how long does it take to grow a plant to do that ? I know 1 month does not achieve stalks like that and I know pot size has alot to do with it too. I was just wondering how long and what pot size could I try that
