Ok, about four years ago my brother gave me this little bamboo tree that I have been keeping alive somehow. After reading about all these nutrients nutes, etc used for weed I started to wonder how this thing has not died yet. The only thing i give it is tap water, and its planted in rocks. How does it get nutrients to grow and live? :???:

It's a damn weed. I used to think it was frickin awesome until it started shooting rhizomes all over my backyard, and grown almost four stories tall (yes, my house is three stories and this thing is taller than my house). On top of that, every shoot started to develop mold/fungus/whateveryounameit, and this crap blew all over my garden last year. All of my hydro tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins, you name it. Wiped out. Still have about half of this crap let to cut down. uhg.

bamboo doesn't need anything special other than water, shit grows likke weeds here in hawaii.....its dark now, but tomorrow I'll post a pic of bamboo thickets in my yard 5 stories tall+... it's cute as a little centerpiece but put that shit in the ground and watch out!!if you give it nutes, it will turn into a monster!!

Im no botanist but i am a landscape designer specializing in tropic and sub tropic landscapes there are many kinds of bamboo but two basic types spreading and clumping - the rest is academic. As for how it survives it is a deep rooted plant with a set kind of needs just like any other plant. BUt because it comes from some pretty harsh elements as well as lush ones it has an incredible hardiness to it. It loves a good mineral based soil ( lava soil in Hawaii and Japan comes to mind) the ph variants I have seen it growing in is impressive as could be. Now is your plant in its maximum condition? Prolly not bud, but a little strengthening of the soil structure might do wonders..
Good luck

I just realized that i give it tap water. The tap water where i live has a bunch of minerals in it. Maybe that is how it has been living
