Yo everyone,

If i get a 600W dig dimmable ballast and it says cut down to 75% do you think that will be ok for a 400W lamp?

Thanks!

Well 600÷4=150 so every 25% is 150watts so my answer would be no 600 watt cut by 75% would be 150 watt if you can cut by 25% that would be 450watt and that would work

Thanks for the reply man, think i worded it wrong...

It has a 75% power setting and then lowers to 50% aswell

Thanks

Its not good to reduce.power to something that wants 600 watts Nd cut down to 450 etc thats srrainging bulbs and causing premature failure

Why not just use a select a watt ballast where you choose to run a 400 watt bulb or 600 watt bulb?
If just using a dimmable ballast then keep the 600 bulb in.

that so dangerous to put a smaller bulb in oh my god dude.

so your 600 w ballast doesnt trigger on before it hits the desired wattage??

let me know how long it takes for your shit to blow up.

all ballasts are designed for appropriate bulbs. if you have a 1k ballast YOU NEED a 1k bulb, even if you run at lower watts. if will dim the lamp. putting anything else is not only ASKING for fire, but in our lighting technology where fires happen anyway, youre damn near guaranteeing it.

You don't know what your talking about. Its over juicing a bulb that's going to cause a failure.

HID lights are a controlled arc. Once struck the arc can be sustained by a lower wattage given the proper frequency / waveform.

Its pretty much ok to dim a lamp as long as it starts up and warms to operating temperature at full power and then dimmed. This is why you'll see most digitals start at and run at full power for the first 15 minutes or so of on time.

Solis tek matrix will fire and run 400/600/1000 watt lamps. Just screw in the lamp and the ballast will do the rest.

Ive got two 400ws going in my space but another 400 is all i need, im borrowing a friends 600w ballast and would be overkill with a 600w lamp in there so thats why im asking if i could put it to the 75% setting with a 400W lamp in. Thanks for the replys!

So I fucked up yall are correct a select a watt ballast can interchange the bulb not a dimmable sorry I am wrong and others are correct my bad
