ballast noise reduction?

I hear that the ballast for the HTG Supply 150w HPS system is noisy and has a loud buzz/vibration. Is there any way of quiting the sound without the ballast getting over heated? I read they get hott.

Anyone build a box or something of the like?

Right now I am using a digital ballast from there that is very quite and stays fairly cool.

When mounting it mount it to some rubber and then the surface.
building a well ventilated and slightly spacious box for the ballast would also help...but again it must be very very well ventilated....I would use this as a last resort...or buy a digital ballast

Try hanging it with thick heavy duty bungie cords, I do this with my inline fan, it cut the vibration/noise in half. It still makes noise, it's just not carried though out my house now.

I made this mistake being fast and trying to order a used non-digital ballast on eBay. That shit buzzed so loud. lol

You can get the whole econolight 150's with bulb and ballast and socket for $25 and it's dead silent.
The only reason to buy something else is if you aren't in the US. (they only ship in the US)

yeah ive seen them. I just really dont have time to put it all together. I dunno i just like the fact that everything is complete and if I have any problems i know i can get it worked out without additional cost.

But i did think about the econolight for quite some time

But everything you need to do to make the econolight into an effective grow light I think is easier than building a box to quiet a noisy ballast.

Up to you, but getting 2-3x the number of lights for the same price and dead silent without needing to quiet them.... Seems like a no brainer.

I use two of them and couldn't be happier. Great deal and really simple to mod in any way you might like.
