Ballast making loud clanks

Ok my HTG Supply 250w ballast is making a loud metal on metal clank when it switches on, is it bout to bite the dust or what? its new and it has only done 2 grows

Do you have a contactor? Are you 100% sure it's the ballast and not the contactor or timer?

ok im not a pro at these things but its just a simple 250w ballast, not in a caseing it hangs from a metal wire i just started useing it this morning again and when i plugged it in it clanked and came right on. and yes im 100% sure it is coming from the ballast. i triple checked it

Sounds dodgy. First, make sure your bulb is screwed in properly. Second, don't re-start for half an hour after turning off. Give it a few goes then take it back if it's still under warranty.

i think the warranty is out on it, this thing aint gonna burn my house down while im away is it? when it comes on it does great, really quiet. it just did it when i plugged it in at first and again after i unplugged it and back in again. i know now a oops there

Big oops. You ALWAYS need to let an HPS or MH bulb cool down before re-starting.

I just checked their website and it says they have a 5 year warranty (since jan1st, 2010)

Credit card receipt then. Or they will have records. I suspect they went from magnetic to electronic ballasts, hence the change in warranty (they only offered a 2 year warranty before that) so if you have an electronic, they should just take your word for it.
