Ballast making alot of noise.

Hey,

I have a 400W HPS and when I was testing it out and I use MH option instead of HPS it makes a loud buzzing sound, Why is this?

Well then there is your problem

You cant use a Conversion ballast with just one type of bulb.

You need both types of bulbs and switch them out when you switch the ballast from MH to HPS.

Oh, so if I use a MH bulb when the Ballast is on the MH setting it won't make that noise?

Yep thats the long and short of it.

Doing otherwise may even be dangerous.

Well it will still have a small hum... But not as bad as when you are running teh wrong bulb..

the ballast will also make alot of noise when it first fires the bulb, once the bulb heats up it should go away for the most part.

Then I think you might have a digital ballast.

The regular ones, you need to flip a switch but when it is digital it reconizes the bulb you are using.

That is all the information I know however there probaly is more to it that I do not know about.
