Ballast Kit question

This question is for anyone that has built there own ballasts. If you were to build a multiple number of ballasts and you wanted a consistent way to assemble all of them. What would you use to house your ballast, i was thinking an 50 cal ammo can for each 400 watt ballast.

And do these things over heat, do these home made kits need to be ventilated or anything in the way of heat considered since they arent built into a giant heat sync like the store bought ones?

Please only sollutions, not interested in "why dont you buy a new one etc etc." You can build 4x 400 watts for the price of one store bought ballast.

I don't think i'd be a good move to make one unless you have too.

Those things will have lots of power running through them, and all you need is one mess up and you could burn your house down :\

Just to reiterate i dont want to hear i told you so's. If one was to have others home made and running for a couple years now, they would probably have a comfort zone with it, however I am looking for the best means of making one out their in the interest of building a few by the best means possible.

Doesn't the kit already come assembled. The only thing missing is the outer case and the wires aren't connected. You shouldn't have to assemble anything to do with the actual ballast.

thats what im wondering, if anybody has done anything different as the case goes. I know the components are rated at 100 celcius, but just looking for different or better ideas than an ammo case.
