Bad Soil?

Lol, This is my second grow but i decided to try some things different. I went to walmart & got some miracle grow soil...I already put my seeds in the soil & the plants look fine as of now (its only been like 3 or 4 days), but ive seen quite a few posts about Mg soil being bad...Whats so bad about it...do i need to start over with a differant type or is it only certain types of Mg Soil that are no good?

yo i started in MG soil b4 for my first grow also... bout any soil is good for plants, MG has enough nutes for seedlings till about 3 weeks... but not enough nitrogen in the soil i believe for after those 3 weeks.... so after that you add your own nutes/fertilizer and that should do it.... peoples used MG here successfully on this forum before...

DO NOT US MG IT WILL BURN THE FUCK OUT OF YOUR PLANTS Use either Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil "if you can find it" or i just got sta green soil from lowes the other day MG is not good for marijuana plants

nute burn out the a hole i fucked up 10 WW seeds with MG Soil either try to salavage the seedlings or hopefully you have a few more you can germ and plant

i used Miracle grow Organic... some of there stuff got what they called "Slow Nitrogen Release" shit or somethin... but i wouldnt trust all there products.. but some of there soil is good i believe.... but i want fox farm also.... they are from what i hear the best... if u can get that...then get that... for me... i can only have it delivered and im under budgeted... :(.... does anyone know any good soil i can get out of like HOME DEPOT? i just see alot of scotts and stuff and they arent good with watering...

I was a MG fan..., but between moisture control & pre-nuted they are just not worth MY risk...1st no plant needs nutes when they're seedlings...They are fine by themselves for about 3-4 wks. The best is "you" control water & feed.....like paint man.....easy to add more if needed, but almost impossible to remove if too much..
Just water evenly making sure not to get hot spots where theres not enough water...you will get nute burn if the nute is not completely dissolved, and hot spots leave undissolved nutes creating salts....You can tell about watering by weight..(dry & wet) or my favorite...when soil starts to pull away from the plant pot..I don't buy all the water, sun zodiac......etc meters...I would suggest a PH meter $10. wal-mart, but besides that I don't use other things....They are alive and once you get used to seeing the cycles, you'll be able to tell...
Good Luck

I think mostly the problem folks here have w/MG soil is that it's already fertilized, thus making it impossible for them to control the nutrients, etc. that they have mastered.

I've been using the MG MoistureControl this grow. It's essential one soaks, then thoroughly drains this "up-to-90 days" enhanced mix. I did have problems w/burnt plants started from seed, but none with clones. If you're gonna use this, be sure the bag(s) you buy aren't sopping wet. I ended up with one. The 90 day nutes had all dissolved at once and burned some plants badly, tho they revived themselves. I wrote Scott's and they refunded my dough w/o a receipt. I plan on using this soil from here on out. It has really minimized the attention I need to pay during the veg stage. Has worked perfectly for me, but there was/is a learning curve to this soil concoction, believe it or not.
I'm sure I'll get some crap for this, but MG's likley been in business longer than most of the newer "specialty" nute companies combined.
Might SUCK in some's opinion, but my plants seem to thrive in it.

I went back & checked the plants again today & i noticed that they looked as if they were lacking sunlight so i moved them to a better spot... Other then that the embryo leaves look as if something has been eating them so im gonna try using some type of bug killer (would seven dust work?). Im hoping they survive for atleast another 3-4 days & then i will attempt to transplant them to a bigger pot & use a differant type of soil...

I will not use miracle grow for my Gardening, I use only FF ocean forest, has bat guano and worm casting.

:hump::hump:.....only thing i would add to this is ..foxfarm ocean forrest all the way.....:joint:

You can make your own soil mix. Here's a great one:

Two parts "Schultz's "Potting Soil Plus."
One part Vermiculite.
One part Perlite.
One part Worm Castings.
Add one SMALL handful of Granulated Dolomite Lime (stabilizes PH), for every two gallons of soil mix.

No nutes are necessary for the first 45 days of growing with this mix and the plants love it.
