Back to soil for a while

I just lost another DWC batch to root rot. I can't stand it anymore. So I'm going back to what I know. It's clear I haven't been able to truly sterilize everything and it's just lurking there in airstones, powerheads, tubing, netpots, hydroton, every goddamned thing. The last batch was going ok until the 3rd week, then everything started to droop, stopped growing, and the rez went cloudy 2 days after a complete change (done weekly) and when I pulled apart the rockwool, it smelled like rotten cabbage and the few roots there were broke off freely. I so want to get hydro right, but I need a crop too. So I'm growing in dirt which I know how to do and in the meantime I'm going to replace just about every bit of hydro hardware I've got, take some clones from my soil grow and try again later. It pisses me off that so many people here can get it right and I haven't even come close. Defeated by a microbe.:-?. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. Whew!

Don't feel bad, man...I can't do shit in Hydro either! I have 5 Hempy buckets and one in soil; the Hempys look like their about to take a shit on me and the one in cheap Miracle Grow soil is thriving.

Some people just aren't meant for hydro, my friend :)

The five stages of crop death lol:
  1. Denial: The initial stage: "It can't be happening."
  2. Anger: "Why me? It's not fair."
  3. Bargaining: "Just let them live til there are buds."
  4. Depression: "I'm so sad, why bother with anything?"
  5. Acceptance: "It's going to be OK."
Greenman, I agree about rockwool, it holds soooo much water and I was drip feeding, but it works for others so why not me (why lord, why??????????????)

I'm gonna get back on that water horse and ride, though. Down but not defeated:weed:

Here's my first foray into hydro; the passive hydro (Hempy) is on the left and the soil is on the right, It's been topped and given me 3 clones:female.

I've seen a lot of people grow well with Hempys so I guess it's just not my thing!
