Average life span

whats the average life span of a 250watt digital ballast? I'm looking at one on ebay and this dude says "it has been used for a couple of years and still has life in it" what do you guys think??

Cheap electronic ballasts have a very short lifespan, and it could be on it's last leg for sure.

I wouldn't touch that thing at all if it's anything but a top brand name.
