do autos get bigger if outside in earth and not potted?

Makes no difference if the pot is large enough and they get the same nutes.

autos generally only need 2-4 gallons because they are so small

my auto red dwarf is in a 2 1/2 gallon pot outside and is flowering at about 3 inchs tall
that sucks

Exactly! they only get 2 feet tall max. so 2 gallons is plenty. its not recommended that they get planted into the ground either.

i just transplanted an Auto Jock Horror into a 2 gal on friday and thats where it will stay. its 16 days old and 6-7 inches tall but no preflowers yet.
