Artomas Grow Journal (Ultra Noob)

Hey all,

First of all let me introduce myself as a severe noob. I really don't have any sort of green thumb but I have common sense and a willing attitude so hey what the heck, I figure I can learn how to do this.

This is my first attempt to grow anything of any usefulness....I picked up the Aerogarden 7 pod model for free when my neighbor moved and he left it on his back porch...So hey..I figured what the heck...I had some really good smoke and I took the seeds outta it so I'm by no means working with Dro, but I wanna see what I can learn / Do on my first project.

I started the seeds in a paper towel, and then transferred them over to the Aero..I apologize for jumping in with these photos and not having them from day one.

A bit to remember, I have a stock Aerogarden, nothing else...I have some Fruiting Nutes and some Growing Nutes. Both the default Tomato ones that were left in the box.

I understand I need a timer, and figure 8 cord for a 12/12. I currently have it set to the default 18/6 timer that comes with the machine. I also understand that I need an Air pump and Imma get one here shortly. Any feedback or guidance would be greatly appreciated. No matter how redundant, I'll take it. Here is how they look so far, I change the water Weekly so this Thursday will be the start of the 3rd week in the Aero. Info and feedback will be welcomed and appreciated!

You may not be working with dro seeds, but you are on your way to creating dro.
Looks like they are yellowing slightly so you might need to add a lil bit of the grow nutes.

Krozone, Thanks for the reply! Here are the answers your questions!

1: How are you, financially speaking in terms of outfitting the AG?
* You will undoubtedly grow out of the AG, thus the added items should be used in a custom DWC Setup in the future. Example: Air Pump/Stones. *
I do definitely plan to get the Air Stone and Air pumps as so many pictures prominently display, so that's going to be acquired in a few hrs actually! However, I do fully intend to get a much larger setup going. So I'm not afraid to invest in order to return a quality product!

2: Get rid of the Aluminum Foil and pick up either some Mylar or Panda Film and use it instead.
This is all I had at the time but I will also be grabbing the Mylar paper on the same trip to the store

3: Describe your growing space, air movement, etc..etc..
I currently have the AG in my back room of my house, Its very outta the way and no one ever goes in there. The Temp in the room is a cool 77 right now and at night it gets down to 70 - 72. I do have two fans in there that circulate air. Its currently set to Tom/Peppers cause according to what I find online its the closest to 18/6 that this machine will allow. I do have 4 growing tablets and like 20 fruiting tablets once again the ones that came with this box.

4: Do not use Tap Water or Rain water in your case (Although it may be fine, coupled with potential PH up/down adjustments).. Distilled water from the Grocery store = less concern. Easier grow.
I went to the store and picked up a big water cooler jug and filled it up with distilled water and that's what I have been using to refill the res.

Lol, I only ask because once you start to flower; you're in for quite a shock. If this is not your house, regardless if no one actually goes back to that room; the smell will permeate. (the whole house will smell)
You will need to figure out how you will deal with the smell... Can you offer additional information about the space and how you plan on dealing with the smell?

There's a AeroGarden Master Growing kit that contains (I think like 20-40 of the sponges), (10-20) of the detachable (Snap apart) nets and AeroGarden Nutrients. In Canada, they are avail at Canadian Tire.

You will also do much better with more appropriate nutrients, rather then Veg & flower with the AeroGarden nutrients. Take a look at what others use. You can get your nutes basically anywhere, take a look at http://www.advancednutrients.com for reference. (Buy your nutes in person w/cash) *Just a suggestion*.

BTW: Re: Air Pump. Don't forget to pick up Air Line, coupling valves, T-Valves, multiple airstones. (Depending on the size of your reservoir, choose the appropriate size). I run one pump to Air line, T-valve, to two Air stones. One on either side of the res. I then disconnect the AG pump completely, plug in the Figure 8 cord to the hood and discard the functionality of the AG all together. This is typically where the notion of the AeroGarden being a severely overpriced Branded DWC setup comes in. :> Although true, the ease of the AeroGarden; coupled with the professional *legit Looking* growing "device" makes it worth the while. I'd still recommend one to a friend, but explain that; Yes. They can do it cheaper by building it themselves..etc..etc..

Its my house and aside from my Boxer and myself, its just us, however, based on your message, I think I had better start figuring out a air purification solution. Since the last I wrote to you I did go and get the mylar, so I have that instead of foil now, Im leaving to get the air stone and air pump now, so that will be installed shortly.
I will get the things you told me too regarding the pump, I will post some photos when I get back.

lol, what did you end up buying at the store.. It's been awhile since you left to go pick up some items. :>
