Are these any good??

your 55w cfls only give out about 4000 lm (guessing) , so in theory you're increasing your watts by ~33% and total light by ~50%.
 
I want to add two of these to my grow in combination with 4 55w CFLs. Are these any good??
They're better than CFL'S for sure, but for $20/pc, you'd be better off buying any LED type bulb from home depot or walmart and removing the diffusers to expose their bare diodes. Now, you could MIX your bulb here, with those bulbs I spoke of and have yourself a decent little light source.
 
Would I be better off with all LEDs?? Right now I have six CFLs and I'm hoping get to lower temps by replacing two of the CFLs with the LEDs. I just don't have a lot of head room20160827_095656.jpg 20160827_095916.jpg
 
Whats your budget? If its only 40 get the amazon bulbs at that price they're way better value than ge bright lights.
 
Move the extension lead sockets out side of the box altogether, they give off heat. Clear out everything from that little apartment except what nessacary.

Personally Id remove the fan and celing and stick 2 pc fans in the two holes at the back. the extra height will be very handy.

so your fan is transporting air from the lower chamber to the upper , then it males its own way out. so why not get rid of the upper chamber, boom middle step removed? the fan is achieveing very little in terms of moving heat away from your grow area. it barely does that all all, right?
 
Well the exhaust fan creates a negative pressure inside the lower chamber and sucks out the rising heat from the bulbs into the upper chamber. Then the upper chamber becomes positively pressured causing the air to shoot out the back where I drilled the two 4" holes.
 
Ge bright Stiks throw out 1500 lumens each bro. But they're hot. I'd seriously if I were you, build a cob light with a 5.886" heatsink and some small cobs. Just get one that's the length of your cab and put as many as you can fit on it. Run them very soft so you get a ton of spread.
 
Its sucking air in by the bottom, but also in thru every crack in the box, in cluding any in the ceiling. Any hot air that goes out the holes hit up against the house wall, making that nice and warm, some of the the hot air slowly rises above your box, somegets sucked back in to the bottom.

Think of your grow area as the box + the space around it used for fresh air intake. Now you need to remove heat from that whole area or your wasting your time right? At the moment you're mostly moving air around inside that area.

The amazon leds throw out 3500 lumens,
 
This might give you some ideas. Square white plastic conduit could be used to move the heat away from the exhast holes (you only need one btw) . 4 inch conduit cut lengthwise so its a 2 1/2 inch deep gutter could be stuck to the wall behind the box going straight up in to the floor boards above, I looks just like an electrical conduit would.

I'd say I would only work if the conduit goes strait up all the wat so it can act like a chimney to help the fan. no bends.

He's trying to keep it somewhat stealth obviously. That's a bit odd looking to have a dresser with white chimneys. Lol
